Just cleaned up my Amazon library
I figured it was about time to delete ebooks that I finished reading and don't think I need to keep in my on-line library. The oldest book currently is dated as being purchased June 5, 2008 and I have 259 books remaining. There are about 50 books that I have read and am keeping, the 'Lord of the Rings' collection and several mobilereference collections, Charles Dickens, William Shakespear, HP Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, Mark Twain and others. That leaves about 200 unread, mostly free, mostly romance and fantasy novels that I have not gotten to.
Question - are you keeping the books you have in your library or do you delete as you read. If you really like a book, do you go out and get the hard copy? I have yet to purchase in book form anything that I have in ebook in the last 5 years. |

Huh? What do you mean you deleted them. Doesn't that mean that you can't download them from Amazon again without re-purchasing?

Yes, most of what I have in my library are free. I don't need to weed through pages and pages of stuff I will never read again. Some people keep everything. I actually have a downloaded copy of most of the stuff on my computer but yes, I deleted many off the Amazon library and I don't keep samples or ebooks I didn't enjoy. That is my questiion, do most of you keep everything in your library and not delete anything?

I keep it all. Samples go of course. The rest stays. Takes up no space in my life. Bought 200 books from Amazon in the past 2 years between my wife and I. About 80% are my purchases. Bit surprised at how much I am reading. Not all my books come from Amazon and I also read a lot of magazines. Clearly I need to get a life.

I currently have about 60 books there...at an average of $10 each: $600 That is over about the last two years. I've probably spent twice that on pbooks at amazon. Last edited by kennyc; 10-12-2011 at 07:37 AM. |

Having just checked, there are 86 books in my Amazon library. I've bought books elsewhere, too, so I'd guess I've bought over 100 books in the last year (not counting freebies) |

No much space for Amazon. Not like they have separate little copies of your books. A little link to the file is all it is I think

I delete the library books from my Kindle Archive (since re-downloading an expired library book isn't exactly a very fulfilling experience—who knew?!), but everything else stays. Unless a book I purchased really, really sucked, of course.
But basically, I keep my Kindle cleaned up, and the rest is Amazon's problem. ![]() Last edited by DiapDealer; 10-12-2011 at 08:07 AM. |

IMO donate them to another user. They'd be DRM'ed of course, but its upto the receiver to do what he wants with them

With very few exceptions, if I bought it - I keep it.
I keep it in my various online store archives (Amazon, Kobo etc) I keep it in Calibre I keep it in Dropbox I keep it over at Mozy.com Most of them I also keep on a Kindle device organized into collections. All of that is pretty much automatic and little work, I can't imagine why I'd want to go through and delete them. What if I have a Granddaughter someday who might want to read "old fashioned" Romance novels? I'd hate to tell her I deleted them all. |

I have deleted a few books that were freebies that I thought I'd like and then hated... but other than that I just delete off my Kindle when I'm done. I put the ones I really, really liked in calibre and call it a day. The ones I never want to read again can sit in Amazon.
