ebook reader for travelling
Hallo, I am newcomer in ebook readers. I have done some research on web, but still have some question to ask.
Except "real" books I would like to use reader as a variation of paper travel guides with either full or scanned parts of travel guide. They are usually smaller than A4, but have some maps on two pages. Sometimes I have to zoom lot to read street names. All are pdf. Except my own pdf documents I would like to use it for papers and journals pdf. 9´´ more display might be too large to bring on travel and handy. Or am I wrong? I think about Sony 950. Isnt it out of time model? Any other suggestion? Perhaps tablet for colour maps? Some additional request - it would not be bad to have wifi to connect in wifi free places and get additional travel information on web (wikipedia, google map etc) and save it, if possible. Thank you very much. Last edited by merapi; 10-22-2011 at 01:12 PM. |

Well, here's the thing. If you don't want to go as big as 9", you're not going to have a good time trying to actually read PDF's.
6" ereaders really aren't meant for PDF's. Most of them support it, including my Kobo Touch. And my KT actually has pretty good support for PDF's - I can rotate and zoom and all that fun stuff. But no matter how good the tools are, the reality of it is still this: It's a 6-inch sceen. And furthermore, it's e-ink, so it's a little choppy when I'm dragging it around, and I can only zoom so far in before it just becomes more trouble than it's worth to drag it, and honestly, it's a pain. I would not recommend going with a standard-sized e-ink screen if you want to read PDF's. You'll drive yourself nuts. Seriously, look into the 9"+. It's not as big as it sounds. The 6" readers are about the same surface area as a paperback, and as thin as a novella. I've heard great things about the Pocketbook 903, which is a 9" reader with tons of features. It's also very open format, so it will be compatible with things from a variety of sources. |
