PRS T1 and folders

Hello,

the T1 will be my first Sony and I'm looking forward to it.
Before it arrives, I may have a dumb question : Does it support folders?
If not: How can I tell witch one of my books belong in a series and in witch order to read a specific series if all I have is titles (because the folders in my bebook tell me that now)?
Sorry if my Englisch is not that good, it's not my native language.

You can create your own labels for your collections

I don't know how much info is shown on the title listings for series, but my daughter has created labels for Manga, Classics, Fairy Tales, Mystery & Thriller and Scary for her T1. There is also a default folder for "unread books"

I hope this helps a little, Joy

Historically, Sony has supported Collections versus folders. PRS+ is an add-on that also supports folders and is written by folks who post here at MobileRead. They will likely have a version that supports the T1.

Calibre is a computer (PC, Mac, or Linux ) program that is the best at organizing books and creating Collections for you. It has a column for series information; put the book in Calibre and provide the series information. Send the series all at once to your reader and Calibre will create a Collection on your reader with the books in series order.

Calibre doesn't (yet) include a T1 driver that supports collections. It is in the works, but I don't know how Calibre release cycles work, so I don't know how long it'd take to make it out to general users.

What Iam missing are subfolders. As far as I know you can't create a "subcolletion"?! I have about 500 scanned Books of one series (don't know what they are called in english, they are released every week with about 60 pages). What I would like to do is create a collection called "John Sinclair" and then a couple of "subcollecitons" like "1-50"; "51-100"... so I don't have to scroll down from book 1 till book 256 every time i start a new book.

I hope my problem is understandable, despite my bad english.

When you are in a collection (or any book list for that matter) if you touch the page number area (ie. "Page 1 of 20") you'll get a popup with a scroll bar and a last page (and later a first page) jump button that makes it really quick to navigate where you want to go. Give it a try.

The English term you want is a "serial" (meaning parts released individually over time as part of a larger work). You can have an item in both the larger "John Sinclair" collection, and in a smaller one also; the two will be separate collections, not one as a sub-collection of the other, but I think that should help your situation.

If Kovid was not in the middle of moving half way around the world, it would probably already be done. With past versions of the Sonys, the release cycle was very fast, within a few weeks of when the device was released.

Previous models were all based on the 505 software, so it was actually really easy to support them. How collections worked on the Sony devices hasn't changed in something like a little under 4 years. The T1 doesn't share that legacy.

But if you are interested in the progress, you can check out the T1 thread in the Calibre Devices forum. I've been trying to contribute work for a new driver, since I have my T1 and didn't want to wait for automatic collection support.

I had noticed that you were actively involved with working on a new driver for the T1, but hadn't realized that the T1 was so different from previous models. I am serenely confident that you and other Calibre developers will work out support.

There seems to be a beta version of Calibre that works with the T1. Seems to work ok with mine but I've used it very little so far.

That beta doesn't include collections/thumbnails/etc like the 505 driver does.

Looking forward to the latest version then - haven't had time to play around much with Calibre yet. Seems to be a decent app. I think a donation will be in order when the T1 is fully supported.

I'm effectively "done" with the driver, so it just needs to work through review and acceptance into Calibre. Although with Kovid in the middle of a big move, it's hard to say how long that will take.
