That's an awesome price! I bet this reader doesn't sell too well any more, since its old technology, now.

I found this deal earlier and am really considering this device because of it. I have a few questions before I click on buy though, if someone could please help me out.
1. How do I expand the memory? I've seen varying thoughts on this-one site says SD is expandable to 32gb vs another saying it's only expandable to 2gb; one site says SDHC is another option for expansion from 4gb to 16gb, but doesn't specify if that is micro SDHC or mini SDHC. I just want to know what the largest expandable memory possible is and what kind of card I need to buy to achieve that. 2. Are there hard cases available for it? I've been looking online and have found silicone and soft sleeves but I'd prefer a hard shell that can provide good protection. I am a super klutz when it comes to gadgets. 3. For anyone who has owned this ereader for a decent amount of time, how has it held up? Crazy problems I should know about? Thanks! |

flourish, my first jetBook Lite failed 30 days after getting it. So I got it replaced, and the new one has worked fine now for nearly 20 months.

The "jetBooks" are a great alternative to the common "eInk" devices, in the 5" display
pocketable eReader market. The reflective TFT LCD technology is inherently a little faster than the "eInk" display, and has no "flash to black" on page turns. This at a very slight cost in battery usage. (About 20 hours of actual reading time per charge.) The Newegg sale is/was for the regular jetBook which is the same hardware as the Aluratek Libre Pro, so any accessories are usable for both. You should Google using both names, to find compatible cases. The thick leather slip-on cover for the jetBook Lite provides a lot of protection, I expect that the similar one for the regular jetBook would work as well. The 5" jetBooks use regular full size SD cards and with the current software they are SDHC compatible. I assume that you are considering using the .mp3 music/audio book capability of the regular jetBook a lot? The less expensive 2-4GB SDHC cards can hold a very large library of ebooks. I have used a 16GB SDHC card, just to test it out, in my jetBook Lite and had no problems with it, I don't remember trying it with a 32GB card, which is what is the maximum listed for the device. Ken, thanks for the tip. I found an Aluratek Pro cover on Amazon (used, but like new) for $10. That's about all its worth. That thing is ugly! I do like using the Jetbook in the cover better, though. I like being able to just flip it open and closed quickly, rather than fumbling with the pouch. The cover adds a lot to the thickness, but its still smaller than the Kindle.

The slip-on cover for the regular jetBook should be the same as the one for the JBL,
except for the slot in the back for the battery cover/bump. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...96#post1446796 Shows some of the cheap/inexpensive vinyl decals I have on my JBL slip-on cases. The slip-on cases add very little to the dimensions of the jetBook. Perhaps you can spruce up your ugly case. Luck; Ken |

Ken, thanks for the idea. I think I will look into doing something like that.
This is the one I got. The inside front is the ugly part. I don't know why they made the part that surrounds the lower function keys so big. I'll have to see if I can find something that will go on that. You can see pics of the inside here. Last edited by booklover6; 10-01-2011 at 07:40 AM. |

I bought a red ipad 1 skin (has a dragon on it) and cut the bottom off, and cut it to fit over the inside of the case, the part that goes around the Jetbook buttons. My Jetbook is red. Much better.
But I finally admitted to myself that I really do prefer my Kindle---the whiter background, and the ease of adding books over the wireless, the larger screen. So I took my books off, loaded some kids books on it, and gave it to my daughter. (She was pleased, but hasn't used it yet). She hasn't used my Kindle so hopefully the background won't bother her. (She is 8). |

For an 8 year old the lack of wireless connectivity is probably a bonus -- makes it a little easier to monitor what's going into the reader.

That's true....now I just have to go to the bother of getting some of the Kindle kids books I have on to it. She's got some others on there though. She started Island of the Blue Dolphins last night.
