Kindle DX4?
I have been looking around for a big e-reader and would like a DX since it seems to have good page turning speed and the most ergonomic. However, I'm not sure if to wait for the DX4 since I have read that the kindle 4 pearl screen is clearer. I'm not sure if it would be a long time till it was released due to the Amazon fire and other new kindles

I doubt there will be any new DX models released. It seems to be a dead model and I wouldn't be surprised if it is discontinued before long. The DX doesn't even get mentioned on the Kindle models page anymore.

Won't the prices just go UP with no forthcoming replacement?

I figure that the 10 inch version of the Fire will replace the DX. This makes sense for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is that the major advantage of e-ink over lcd is the "reading outside" advantage, and who really takes a DX outside to read? Plus I have to believe that the Big Fire will come in at the same price point as the DX. If that's the case, why would anyone buy a DX? I have mine almost accidentally - I ordered one to try it out when I lost my K3 (translation: when I left it on the airplane and the cleanup crew stole it) and since this was in my pre-iPad days, liked it enough to keep it even when I bought another K3. But if I'd had an iPad at the time, I would not have bought the DX. |

It is in the compare Kindles table. Sad that it is not at the top.

I would like to see them continue the DX line, but maybe drop the price a bit.

I'd like to buy a DX but the price is too high. I looked on eBay and they sometimes go for under 200 dollars there.
I'm confused about the 3G though. There seem to be three types: Unlocked, AT&T, and International. Is there a monthly subscription fee for some Dx Kindles? |

There are no subscription fees. The original DX was domestic US only, and the next incarnation was international. The newer DXs have the Pearl screen.

Even the old (white) DX is still there: http://www.amazon.com/kindle-store-e...node=133141011, 'Kindle DX (Free 3G, 9.7", White - 2nd Generation' But you're right, the DX is a dead end. I don't even expect any firmware upgrades anymore. A mate of mine has a K3 ('Kindle Keyboard', nowadays); perhaps I'll go the 3.2 firmware route to update it. |
