Kobo e reader will not charge?

Hi Everyone.

I am a new member and this is my first post that unfortunately requires advice from members who might have experienced this problem.
I purchased a entry level Kobo reader from " Best Buy" in May and have only read one or two books on it. I also have a Kindle 3 which I use frequently.
Yesterday I decided I would buy a book from the Kobo store and downloaded it to my reader. I put the reader on charge through my desktop pc and the light remained red even after charging for over 3 hrs.
I then charged the reader on a usb charging device that you plug into a wall socket for another 3 hrs and still no charge but now it displayed a message that my battery was almost completely dead.I pushed a pin into the reset button in the back of the reader and still received this message.
The little red light is on but also shows a a ring of lights at times.

As I mentioned I only read 2 books on it so the battery cannot be worn out.
Anyone have this problem and can suggest a solution? I have discarded the receipt so I may not be able to return it.

Thank You. Brian.

Have you tried asking customer support @ Kobo? They might be able to help

I would leave it on charge for 24 hours or more. Takes more than 5 hours to fully charge from full discharge. It can't over charge unless defective and should be under warranty. Kobo or chapters should help you with warranty repairs or replacement. If your not using it for long time hold down on/off button until light comes on should turn it off while a short hold down on/off button sends it to sleep mode which drains battery faster than off. Wifi coming on to check for subscriptions should be set off to get max battery life.
