[HELP] Using usbNetwork to register Kindle

Hi,

I'm an overseas Kindle user, using a US Kindle 2. I'd like to register it but don't have access to Whispernet. I've set up usbNetwork and am able to telnet into the Kindle. I set up internet sharing through my system preferences (os x) but still haven't been able to access the internet from my kindle.

Is anyone willing to help me out?

When I run usbnet-enable I get the following:

Errm, why are you running usbnet-enable? USB networking already _is_ active, otherwise you wouldn't be able to login via telnet.

Probably all you need is to set up a route and a nameserver. Although I do not know if this would allow registration in the end.

I tried:

mntroot rw
echo nameserver 208.67.222.222 > /etc/resolv.d/resolv.conf.default
echo nameserver 208.67.220.220 >> /etc/resolv.d/resolv.conf.default
route add default gw 10.0.0.1 [which is the host IP I specified in the config file]

Didn't seem to have any effect so I'm guessing I'm doing it wrong

Hm. /etc/resolv.d is second class to /etc/resolv.conf - where does the latter point to? IIRC (not near any kindle right now) it pointed to some file in tmpfs (so you wouldn't need the "mntroot rw").

But the "route add" should be sufficient to ping hosts by IP. Did you check e.g. with Google's DNS servers (nothing special about them, they're just easy to remember): 8.8.8.8 or 4.2.2.1?

Can you ping the host PC itself or a local router (to make sure the PC acts as a gateway properly)?
