I've been reading at least a book a week for 60+ years; I've been online for 34; I'm interested in ALMOST everything; I'm especially interested in finding some way to manage my books on my Kindle. I have about 2000 physical books at home and I literally ran out of room, so I broke down and bought a Kindle, but I want to be able to ORGANIZE my eBooks. I've been reading mysteries for over 30 years and I like to keep them in order. I don't necessarily care about order with my Steinbeck books, or Vonnegut books, or Twain books, but with mysteries it's important (to ME). I'm a bit surprised that the Kindle software doesn't allow you to do that, but I had one of the first Macintosh PC's made and you'd be amazed at what it didn't allow you to do. Things That Get Used a Lot Change over Time. But at the moment, the Kindle doesn't offer much in terms of organization. I've HEARD of Calibre but can't find it anywhere. (I've also heard there are problems with it, but I'm getting desperate). Any other apps that are useful along the organizational lines would also interest me. Thanks. Looking forward to fun, useful, and interesting discussions.

Welcome to Mobileread! ![]() calibre creator, Kovid Goyal, is extremely responsive in the calibre forums , as are all the calibre developers! If you haven't already, visiting there would provide some assistance. ![]() calibre itself can be found here. Along with the addition of the plugin 'Kindle Collections' designed by forum member meme, the creation of a storage system e.g. collections on kindles is spot on! ![]() |

Hi DocPlum and welcome to MobileRead. I've been on line for 21 years and have been reading eBooks since I got an iPaq back in 99. And, like you, I ran out of space for my pBooks.

I did, finally find Calibre (WHO would have thought of just searching on the word "calibre"??? LOL). I confess I haven't gotten into it, yet. The problem *I* have with it (at the moment) is that it isn't actually ON Kindle; IF I understand the process correctly, you have to go back and forth from your computer to the Kindle. I feel resistant to doing that. This doesn't mean I won't do it, eventually, but I find it it offputting. Sigh. I'm a charter member of Procrastinators Anonymous - I never got around to joining. (If you JOIN, you are, of course, NO longer a procrastinator.) I wonder if the new Kindle Fire includes apps that will allow you to organize your content however YOU want to??? |
