EPUB, FB2 and folders support in new models?

Does Amazon finally offer these features?

Thanks!

Nope. You can go to Amazon and see for yourself

Quote:
Content Formats Supported Kindle (AZW), TXT, PDF, Audible (Audible Enhanced(AA,AAX)), MP3, unprotected MOBI, PRC natively; HTML, DOC, DOCX, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP through conversion.
(Folders though, who knows?)

But really, if you want epub support, why are you interested in a Kindle in the first place? All the new Kindles are essentially clones of other products (the Kobo for the cheap, the Nook/Kobo Touch for the Kindle Touch, the Nook Color for Kindle Fire) that do support epub. Only in the case of the NC/KF is the price difference that big.

Lack of native EPUB support on Kindle is not really a problem. Calibre can convert EPUB to MOBI format for Kindle.

I know about Calibre. I've been using it to convert FB2 files for my mom's Nook. Now that she has an Iriver Story HD life is so much more convenient. I just drag the file to the device and I'm done. Finding books and magazines on the reader is also ten times easier with folders than it is with a flat list (don't even get me started about Shelves/Collections).

So why am I interested in the new Kindle models? Because I might buy an eReader for myself. However, now that I have a benchmark for convenient (Story HD) and inconvenient (Nook) I know what to look for as a starting point. If the new Kindle models fail this benchmark then I'm not even going to look at their other attributes (which may be better than the Story HD - a great device, but by no means a perfect one).

Only after getting rid of drm
And while ePub will render anything done with mobi, the reverse is not true.

Nope, doesn't sound like a Kindle is for you.

But, wait a minute - if it's using Android 2.1 OS, can't we download and install Aldiko? That's what I was planning on doing ... I've done this with another 7" reader I have and it works.

Not to mention all the other apps I hope will also be able to work on the new Kindle Fire

That is a big unknown at this point. The NookColor runs Android but B&N locked it out from most Android apps. You have to jailbreak the NookColor to run Aldiko. We simply don't know yet whether Amazon will allow 3rd party reader apps to be installed on the Fire. There really is no financial incentive for Amazon to allow this so they may not.

Aldiko is in their own app store. No way they lock it out.

That would be for the Fire (the tablet).

As for the eInk devices, no ePub.

and yes, right now the Amazon app store does display apps for displaying ePub. Hopefully those will remain.

Ah, good point, abookreader. Only the Fire has epub possibility.
