PRS-T1 vs. PRS650
While we are excited about the PRS-T1, I can't help asking why we are so excited. Seems that PRS650 and T1 are kind of the same thing except 650 uses button and T1 uses touch. All else seems the same. I could be wrong.

You're wrong. The 650 is touch as well.

The T1 has Wifi, the 650 doesn't.
The T1 can access the Reader Store, Google Books, Feedbooks/Baen, and Libraries from the device, the 650 can't. The T1 has built-in support for multiple fonts, the 650 needs PRS+. There are many minor improvements here and there to the device, plus hitting the price points that put it back in competitive territory are what Sony needed to do. I don't think it was about pulling ahead of the pack. |

also:
t1 has plastic case 650 has metal. 650 has built in slot for stylus, T1 has no stylus holder this stuff is probably in existing threads already - maybe this one should be merged |

So which would has the edge, even if its only slight? The wifi option seems nice but is it going to run off free wifi in the owners area or are they gaining agreements with internet companies? It would suck to have wifi and not be able to use it.
Also not sure about the plastic case...I'm a klutz and and so I'm unsure of the durability. The 650's are selling refurbished at Best Buy for 150$ so I'm wondering if its more sensible to pick up one of those as opposed to waiting for the T1 to come to Canada. |

One things for sure, the 650 is a much nicer looking device than the T1. In fact its a much better looking device than the new kindles.

Sorry for the confusion.....I merely suggest the op buy the one he thinks he wants now at BestBuy.(650)...for a150 bucks...(US)..When the the new T! comes out, and if he like it, then BUY THAT AS WELL...then sell his 650 for 75.00 bucks so its not a total loss...!! or give it to charity or keep it for beach use...Either way its not very much money to go on ad nauseum about an ereader...!!!

Is the 650 all metal? My 350 has a metal front, but I believe the back is plastic. I'm not sure if the same holds true for the 650.
At any rate, I've read on another thread that the prs-t1 seems to have better contrast than any other Sony readers to date. I've read the same about the new kindle readers as well. I haven't read that either ebook reader has been advertised as having better contrast. Could it be an optical illusion? Does eink fade over time? Or is the contrast really better? Any ideas? I will be hitting the mall tomorrow in search of a PRS-T1. Wish me luck! |

I just checked. I can't check store availability, but the prs-t1 is selling for 169, and the 650 is on sale for 150 until October 13th... A great deal. Last edited by Latinandgreek; 10-01-2011 at 10:36 PM. |
