Angry PDF copyprotected (DRM) book looks hopeless on KOBO

The PDF book I have is protected by the (horrible) DRM. ON the ebook reader the fonts are too small and there is nothing I can do. 150% scaled up text is not visible, 100% is too small.

Not good enough ..

getting the PDF book was difficult since I use Ubuntu (but thats another story)

Ubuntu DRM copyprotection and KOBO Not good

I can not tranfer DRM protected PDF files to the KOBO unless I use (*loody) windows. Im an Ubuntu man..

Other threads about it here.

KOBO is not good enough, should have direct WIFI to the DRM files. So dont buy KOBO youll get dependent on the PC software.

As far as I know, the DRM in ANY eBook reader using Adobes standard protection requires the ACSM to be downloaded via the ADE desktop, and this then in turn downloads the actual DRM'ed file.

Only then can you transfer the material to the eBook reader.

Kobo DO support direct WiFi to DRM'ed files; but only those purchased directly from their book store, and even then, not material in ePub format, but only that in there KePub format (which while related to ePub has their own DRM on it).

I'm not sure what you mean by dependent on their software. I've only ever needed to use the Kobo Desktop app for firmware updates, and I've had all three versions of the Kobo. The cross-platform Calibre software takes care of the rest.

In regards to the text size on PDFs, unfortunately, that's a limitation of both the design of PDFs and the size of the screen. I can say from experience with a few different 6" e-readers that reading PDFs on any 6" screen is a pain. The Kobo Touch handles PDFs better than most other e-readers, but it's still not great, because e-readers tend not to support reflowing text in PDFs (IIRC, it is possible).

I tried buying a DRM protected PDF once. It was such a hassle to get it onto my KT, I just couldn't be bothered and since then have never bought one again.
I'm suppose there probably Is a straight forward way of doing it, but it's just too much hassle for me.

Ditto here. I purchased a PDF ebook from Bordrers and I just gave up on tryinng to read it on my KT. I ended up reading it on my IPad using Bluefire. The KT is definitely not a PDF friendly device.Having said that, I never had expectations of the KT being a good PDF reader. So I was not really dissapointed.

Huh. Must be strange DRM you folks run into. The PDFs (such as Stephen King's Desperation just now as a test) I've grabbed from my library's site are Adobe DRM'd and have no problem getting onto, and being viewed on, my Touch thanks to ADE.

Of course, actually reading the damned things is a chore since (as was pointed out) the text tends to be miniscule, have large borders on each side, and are sometimes longer (even when you hit the vertical fit button) than can be displayed 'cos of the page numbers - and PDF pages are a major pain to scroll...
