Old Time Radio Player

I discovered tonight that the Amazon AppStore now allows downloading of at least some apps to the eDGe for Canadian users.

And I found an app truly worth a million bucks: "Old Time Radio Player". The app gives access to a huge library of old radio shows like comedies (e.g., Abbot and Costello), dramas (like Perry Mason), detective shows (like Philip Marlow), etc., from the golden age of radio.

If you love radio dramas and shows, you'll love this app (and will subsequently surrender all your productivity ).

I will not be getting that app! I love old time radio, and it distracts me enough and takes up a major portion of my time already on my PC, but for those with more will-power, that's a great find. Thanks.

Better than an app is to know a good site for listening/downloading the old programs. I go here: http://www.mysteryshows.com/ Between the free area and the members area there are some 48,286 programs available. And that's without the 2,683 episodes of the purely music related OTR programs included. Membership is a small one-time donation to help support the site, and no I'm not connected to the site's owner. Just a member of the site. The shows are in Mp3 format which can play on many different types of player with no trouble.

Thanks Crich! Bookmarking the site.

Boris, I agree with you about the Old Time Radio app!! It already has a lot of good programs, but I haven't been able to figure out a way to add programs to it. I downloaded a bunch of Horatio Hornblower radio shows (Gregory Peck!) from an Old Time Radio website but see no way to get them into the player on my PE. Do you (does anybody?) have any clues?

By the way, I'm happy to see you're still around, Boris, and glad Amazon wised up about selling in Canada!

I get most of my old-time radio shows from iTunes as free podcasts. There's quite a selection there.

If you enjoy Old Time Radio check out the Old Time Video App. Who knows, you just might enjoy Attack of the Giant Leeches or Voyage or the Planet of Prehistoric Women. Works on the PE and the EE and the video playback is very smooth. A good selection of Classic TV, Comedy, Scary Movies, and Sci Fi. Gotta love those Vintage Social Guidance videos. The download will take about 10-20 seconds to start so be patient:

I guess I never thought to search out these old radio shows.

I found www.radiolovers.com which has a huge selection (in MP3), too. I guess these are a dime a dozen

Interesting. Though I think Mysteryshows has a good many more. Here's a link to their listing of programs:
