copying linux installation to another machine

Greetings,

After successfully installing the binary on Linux, can I just copy the /opt/calibre folder and it's symlinks to another machine as a fresh installation? This to avoid having to repeat the download again

Why it's only just over 50Mb for the package?
If the new machine doesn't have internet access d/l it from the sourceforge page (here)

Thanks for the link. The reason is that I'm on an internet plan that charges by download. Why waste download bytes if it's possible to copy one installation to another?

I just looked at the download page you posted. Is the i686.tar.bz2 tar ball the binary or the source?

Yes you can just copy the folder but doing that means you will lose an system integration like launchers, man pages, mime type handling etc.

The bin files are the .tar.bz2 files, the source is the .tar.gz

Thanks for the quick reply. So based on kovidgoyal's reply above, How would i get the symlinks, etc using the tar.bz2 file? Is there some kind of installation script.

I haven't actually used it (I use the web script)
But usually there is an install script or the extracted file will create the links when run.
