Question eDge Purchase - Help me with my decision

So I missed out on the WOOT deal, but I'm starting to consider an eDge purchase again. The best prices I see are on eBay for a 7" Pocket eDge - which is the one I am considering.

I am mainly interested in browsing, reading is secondary, and I might use some specail apps - for example I play guitar and would like to install a program for tuning a guitar. Moneywise I want to stay under $300. I already have a netbook - and that was around $325.

The obvious downside is that Entourage is defunct. So no support from the manufacturer. If I buy from eBay about a 7 day return is about the best "warranty" I can find.

So what do you eDge owners think? Really it is down to the eDge or the Archos 70 Internet Tablet - and the Archose is about $100 more.

Thoughts?

Look into Square Trade warranties.

The eDge (pocket) is nothing to be excited about (like I was). I have had it for almost 2 months and it is nothing special. It is a mediocre device, at best, except for the e-ink side, which is decent. If you want to read e-books and do extremely light web-browsing, then it's not bad. Anything other than that will leave you frustrated. For example, it took about 20 minutes to extract a 100 MB zip file. It will NOT replace a netbook by a long shot.

OK. Thanks. That's the kind of feedback I'd like to hear. Helps me decide.

I notice you didn't mention anything about writing (handwriting) in your post. The *only* real reason to consider an edge (of either side) is if you'll be taking a lot of notes or annotating ebooks and pdfs, and especially if you want to do one of these things while having another app open in the other window (like a browser, or email).

The edges are strong e-writers, but everything else they do is simply a complement to that function, really. If you aren't thrilled about being able to handwrite on the e-ink side, you'll find everything else too mediocre, I suspect.

Update: I'm gonna talk the flunge. I saw a opportunity buy - a black 7" on eBay alraedy upgraded to Android 2.2. I figured if I do not like it, I could sell it for about what I bought it for. My expectations are low, and I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a tablet. I'll always have my netbook. I am interested in the journal function, and will play with that.

Starting with low expectations is good. I predict you will then be pleasantly surprised.

As people have said, it's not the best, but in my opinion it is the best combination!

Welcome to the family!

Filark - Thanks. By chance it appears my Dell Axim 50v died today. I see the eDge more of a replacement to the Axim, than a replacement for the Netbook.
