Put to Sleep or Shut Off?
Hi; I was wondering which is better when I'm done with the Kindle, say for a number of hours or overnight--to put it in sleep mode or to completely shut it off? Is one better than the other to conserve battery power?
And also, is there a better way to charge the battery--that is, I've been recharging when it gets about half down. Is this ok or is it better at times for it to completely drain? Thanks for your help. Bergette |

No need to turn it off unless you're planning not to use it for weeks or months at a time.
Lithium Ion batteries such as the Kindle uses don't mind being "topped up". It really doesn't matter (as far as the battery life goes) whether you recharge it when it's 90% full or 30% full. |

After I got my Pocketbook 360 and Kindle DXG, I pretty much stopped using my Kindle 2. I started shutting it down to the blank screen, but the battery ran down just as quickly as when it was only put to sleep. Then I saw this thread, which shows that "power off" for Kindle is really the same as "sleep". http://www.amazon.com/forum/kindle/r...x1MY2ISK92QX3H It is never better to completely drain the battery. It is also OK to stop charging before the battery is completely recharged. |

I've only turned mine off once, when I thought a book was "stuck".
Turning off wifi will help save battery life, but even then it doesn't matter much if you're going to charge it that day anyway. |
