Help authorizing new PRS...
A tad annoying.....
I want to authorize a new 650, and delete the previous one. I'm in the UK. All the "help"s/manuals I've seen say "Plug in new Reader, and go to to Reader Library, Reader Store, and click on "My Account". Well, I can plug it in, and go to my Reader Library, and then Store. It then asks me to log in, I do, but the Go to Store feature doesn't highlight and is inoperable. Now, is this because we haven't [yet] got an on-line store. So, I'm doing something wrong , and need to do something different - somebody must know what ? Please ? |

I think to deauthorize, you have to run ADE, plug in the 650 and his control-shift-D. I hope that's correct. |

I thought the Sony store only worked for USA and Canada?

When I bought my 350 they told me not to bother registering with the store as I couldn't use it anyway, being in OZ. It's not the same thing as registering the device with Adobe so that you can read the books you get.

Thanks all, will tackle things after the rugby ! [sorry, that was accidental!]
Correct ScalyFreak - we don't have a Sony Store now, I know - but of course, we'll have to have one up & running for the T-1 here in UK . I've always presumed one of the reasons we don't to date are those pesky geographical restrictions, publishing agreements etc... I should think the same will apply in Oz....... |

Umm...... correct, yes. We do know that, but Sony will start-up a [a UK version I presume] Sony Store [what's wrong with "Shop" I ask ! ] here, so you can buy books from them with the wifi wotsit on the T-1. Including the Potter chappy I suppose..... |

I had this yesterday as well. I couldn't find the 'My Account' section on the store link then realised we don't have a reader store in the UK. I then ran Adobe Digital Editions and made sure that recognised my 650 and the same with Calibre.
I think i read somewhere the UK will get a Sony store in October. |

Nope. The ONLY place you can buy the Harry Potter eBooks is from the Pottermore site itself and apparently they're using Google checkout. You can't buy them from the Sony store or anywhere else. The Pottermore site only.

But OP was about a 650, and for them the store is still banned from the UK market, at least for now. Hopefully Sony comes to their senses and opens the bookstore for the x50 readers as well as the T1. ![]() |

Now..... so far , I've authorized the new one on Adobe, which seems to be the answer, and successfully transferred most of my purchased books via a mix of Reader Library & Calibre .
[I still don't know how to have Calibre as my "default" ereader collection library, rather than Reader, so if anyone knows how, I'd be grateful. I have found that some books I can drag & drop from the "Open containing folder" temp file or folder, but on some original d/loads, than option isn't given, just "copy d/load link" which doesn't do anything helpful....] However.... my big problem is the PRS now shows "do not disconnect" all the time ! So I can't - well, I haven't had the nerve to yank it out yet ! Is hibernating or even switching off the PC an answer ? ![]() |

Shut down all software and open Calibre again. Once it's fully loaded and shows your reader connected, use the Device button to eject the reader in Calibre. The icon/symbol on the reader screen won't change, but the reader will no longer show connected under My Computer, and will be safe to unplug. |

Thanks Scaly... couldn't see a "Device button" but did remember "safely remove hardware " button on bottom right tool bar (I'm on XP by the way).
Hit that, then hit" safely remove hardware" - to be presented with a window "Problem ejecting USB mass storage" with the message " The device Generic volume cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later." And it still says Do not disconnect . Frustration rules... And I;m going to have a very well charged battery ! |

The Safely Remove command does the same thing as the Eject command in Calibre, so it should have worked. Since it didn't, try instead to leave your reader plugged in, and then tell XP to shut down/turn off. When the computer turns off normally, it will go through all the motions of turning off all applications and programs, and ejecting all removable devices that were plugged in. So once the computer has finished shutting down, you should be able to unplug and use the reader as always. Not a good long-term solution, obviously, but it should get your reader back to unplugged and usable in the short term, while we work out a better option. |
