How to stop auto-downloading of books on my Kindle?

I think my first question (in this post) about having two instances of Kindle for PC listed on Amazon has been answered, though feel free to add any additional information about that.

My second question, explained in post #2 on this thread, is related to my Kindle automatically downloading all books in my archive as soon as I turn on the 3G and how to stop that from happening. I would love to know if anyone else has had that problem and what they did to correct it. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...16&postcount=2

I edited the title to reflect my second question.

I have recently noticed that on the Manage your Kindle page on Amazon.com, I have two versions of Kindle for PC listed. I don't recall ever installing a second version and I only have one listed in my installed programs list.

On the Amazon page they are listed as Kindle for PC and Kindle for PC 2.

There is an option to deregister each of them, and I was considering clicking deregister for the second one... but I'm not sure if I should.

I think having a second listing may have messed up a Calibre plug-in that requires a PID. I can't remember where I found the K4PC PID... it was a long time ago... but I just noticed that plug-in no longer works. (Unless it was a recent Calibre update that broke the plug-in.)

I have an additional question that I thought I would add here and hopefully it's an easy answer.

When I first got my Kindle, I had all my Amazon books listed in my Archive, and I had to click on a book to download it.

Now whenever I turn my 3G on, the Kindle automatically starts downloading all my Amazon books... which I hate because downloading and indexing a huge amount of books drains the battery and I don't want most of them on the Kindle anyway.

Can anyone tell me how to turn off automatic downloads?

If you only have K4PC installed on one PC, then fire up K4PC and look in the blue Windows title-bar, on the very top left and see if it says "Kindle for PC" or "Kindle for PC 2"

Whatever it says up there... you can de-register the other one on your Amazon page.

I've never heard of such a thing.
I'd call Kindle support if I were you... that's definitely not normal behavior.

Huh, that never occurred to me. It says Kindle for PC, so I guess I will deregister the other one.

I wonder if it has anything to do with moving where I store my library? I have it in a folder with all my ebooks, but I think when I updated K4PC a while back it recreated the Kindle folder in my documents. It's still set to use the folder I created, but for some reason the book I bought the other day from Amazon (a non-free book) is in the Kindle created folder. It's the only one there and it's kind of weird that that one book was stored there instead of with the rest of them.

I've been having a lot of weird issues lately.

Oh no! Really? I was hoping there was just some setting I could change.
