AirPad claims to be the best 7" under $200

This actually looks like a good deal for $200. The only thing I don't like is the low screen res. But the rest looks good for the price. Very comparable to the nook($250) in terms of in CPU/RAM. However the screen is not as nice but in exchange you get more hardware.

Powered by Android 2.3, the X10 AirPad is equipped with a powerful 1.2 Ghz Rockchip 2918 Cortex A8 processor, has a brilliant color screen, 4 GB onboard memory (plus an additional 32 GB with microSD card, not included), a built in camera/video recording device.

The AirPad is equipped with a 7", vibrant full color TFT LCD screen that puts out an incredible 800x480 resolution (more...)

Is that the same venerable X10 of home automation fame? I loved how their stuff ran with the Commodore 64.

That's a really nice looking little device. Very tempting, to say the least.

I've never heard of them. But I did notice they have an "Automation" menu on their web site.

Yes I feel the same way. It would make a nice eReader/tablet for my kids. Or even myself if my nook breaks.

Looks like many feel the same way as they have already sold out.

The demand for the new X10 AirPad tablet was so great that the first shipment sold out in just hours. With a high-end tablet selling for under $200 bucks, I guess it shouldn't come as much of a surprise. But don't worry! We're taking orders for the second shipment, which should be in any day. Don't wait, because we're expecting a ton of orders. Order now and ensure that you get yours!

I sincerly hope they sell a ton of them, and the big guys take notice. So far the only one in this space has been Nook Color, and after all, to the Samsungs and Motorolas of the world, those are ereaders, not tablets.

They need to realize that competing in Apple's space/price point is a non starter.

Glad to see they are still in business! That little tablet would be the perfect controller for an X10 system.

I actualy use my smartphone and/or tab to control my intrusion alarm system. I think it's built on X10 technology, but I don't have a direct interface with it. It's controlled by the alarm company's website through a cellular connection.

I'm not sure I completly good with relying on someone else's web site, but it works well; as long as their servers are up.

800X480 kills it for me. I'd rather get the Vizio Tablet for $289.

I understand, but here's the thing. We wanted to make a fast, stable, functional tablet under $200. The lcd and touch screen quality on the Airpad is really nice and the Rockchip 2918 at 800x480 is really fast. It's ok at 1024x600, but at the lower resolution it's speedy. All those existing Android market existing games and apps scale really well, because they don't have to scale. We evaluated higher res screen options, but felt 800x480 gives more bang for the buck. I feel for you though, I run dual 2560x1600 30" on my desktop.

I'm looking forward to seeing some videos of this; especially being used as an ereader.

@kevinwarne: Can you comment on availability outside of the US?

Welcome to MR Kevin, it's good to have a manufacturer's rep in the forum who's not afraid to step up and declare himself. Keep the comments coming!

This is a valid reason.

Granted I don't know what degree of performance differences you are referring to but my nook running 1.2GHz(0verclocked) 1024x600 is snappy enough. If I was given a choice between speed increase or resolution increase I would always chose screen resolution every time.

Never the less for the price it's a nice piece of hardware. One thing that was not on the spec sheet was the screen protection. Does this have gorilla glass or something equivalent?
