Certified BN Referbished

Would any of you purchase (or have purchased) a certified BN referbed Nook Color? My raging hesitance on buying an eReader has lead me to now look at the Nook and cruising through the BN website, I saw a link for certified refurbished.

I've purchased referbed equipment from other places, including eBay and have had good luck with them. I was wondering if anyone here has purchased a referbed Color.

Thanks!

Got one from 1SaleaDay when they had them, certified pre-owned. It appears to be in perfect condition and is very nice.

I haven't bought anything refurbed from B&N, but by experience with consumer electronics is that (so long as they company is reputable), factory refurbs have usually been tested more times and to a higher standard than brand new. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to buy a refurb from B&N, if they ever offer anything I want, but not so badly that I can't wait until refurbs are available.

That's how I got mine! They say that it does come with a 1 year manufacturer's warranty, but I'm a little unsure of how I would go about using that. Let's hope I never have to.

I received one with a defective speaker. One call to Barnes & Nobles and they are shipping me another one and emailed me a shipping label. Hopefully the replacement is ok.

I've had my refurb Nook Color for about 6 months, and it works great. Other than packaging, there was no way to tell the difference between it and a brand new one.

I returned my Touch to B&N because it was defective and they sent me back what I thought was going to be a refurb (because that's what they told me I'd be getting). However, it was packaged like a new one - a shrink-wrapped regular new-Nook box. So, I cannot tell if is a refurb or a new. Reading what you say about the packaging being different on a refurb makes me think maybe I lucked-out and received a new one! Hope so.

We have 3 Nook Colors in the family. Two were bought new from BN. Recently I bought a refurbished one from their ebay site. I carefully went over it and could find no defects period - it looked NIB. Only difference was it cost $70 less . Since the price difference was minimal I purchased from BN rather than the others because of their customer service. I would repeat the transaction w/o hesitation.

But can you tell me - did the refurb come in the same packaging as the new ones - i.e. the same box with the charger in the bottom compartment, etc? I am trying to figure out if what I got is a refurb or new.

Mine did come in the same packaging, as far as I could tell? It included clear sticker-like wrap around the actual device that you pull off without leaving any residue. (I don't have a brand-new NC to compare but it seemed like it'd be the same.) And the only difference was a little sticker on the box saying "Certified pre-owned Nook."

Thanks very much for this info Franken_stein. My box does not say that, so looks like I got a new one, which is nice to know. They probably did that because it was a pretty obvious problem that it had from the very beginning, but didn't become apparent till after the 14-day return period was past. But I did think I was getting a refurb, so this is nice news.

I did have new ones to compare. 2 differences - The refurbished sticker that had to be removed to open the box and the power cord was not packaged as nicely as the new one. Otherwise this rascal was pristine in condition and software. Works fine. I probably will root it at some point. I like stock android better than the B&N version.
