Complaining about Coupons
Did anyone else get the MIDNIGHT KOBO SALE coupon last night? For $10 off? I was right narked off -- I was getting ready for bed, saw the coupon title, got all excited, scrolled down, saw the amount, and wanted to fling the phone across the room.
$10 is seriously undervaluing my beauty sleep. ![]() In more relevant rantiness, I hate getting B&N adverts all the time encouraging me to buy a Nook Color when I own a Nook Color and they know that full well, thank you very much. I also hate the B&N coupons that are, of course, not valid on the one thing I buy from them: eBooks. I really want to customize my mailing options from them so that they only send newsletters relevant to my needs (I care about Nook updates and innovations, and eBook coupons if they ever do those, and PubIt news. And that's it.), but you can't. Amazon sends me wonderful recommendation emails, but half the time lately, they include things I bought from Amazon and reviewed on Amazon. Better filtering would seem in order there, Ammy me old mate. ![]() So. Complain about coupons and newsletters that you can opt out of and don't have to look at and why-is-everyone-complaining-about-free-stuff here. ![]() Last edited by anamardoll; 08-17-2011 at 05:27 PM. |

I looked and saw the Kobo Touch backordered with no availability in my local Best Buy stores.

I set up my email to filter all those emails from sites I have shopped at, to a special folder. Then I have them automatically delete after a month. If I am shopping at one of those stores, anyway, then I go in and read their emails for possible coupons. Other than that I don't open their emails.
The shopping thing that annoyed me recently... I was on my way to visit a friend in the hospital. I had bought him an audiobook from Audible.com, loaded it on an MP3 player to take to him, and I stopped at Rat Shack to see if they had any headphones that would be easier for him to manage (he's had a stroke and can only use his non-dominant hand - he is awkward). The clerk suggested a little portable speaker device instead, which seemed like a great idea so I bought it. Then I thought I better get batteries for it. The batteries were one pack for $5.50 or four packs for $10. I only needed one pack, but the clerk was pressuring me to get four, and when I demurred, he started increasing the number of packs of batteries he would give me for my $10, and all the other clerks came over to get in on the debate. And I was in a hurry, I didn't want to continue to argue with idiots about what is a bargain. So in the end I spent $10 for TEN packs of batteries, just to get them to shut up about it and ring up my purchases. Shut up shut up shut up!!!! Then I had a struggle to carry them all on the motorcycle, because my tank bag was full. And what am I gonna do with all these disposable batteries anyway? I use rechargeables at home and have plenty of them, and I normally try really hard not to buy disposable batteries. Also the clerks at this Rat Shack were all hung up on asking me really *stupid* things about my motorcycle. Like how many cc it is, and since it's 1200cc I must be a really good rider - as if a really good rider wouldn't be good on a smaller displacement bike. It was all about ego and they wanted to be impressed for dumb reasons. One of them even followed me out to the parking lot to ask me more questions. They just didn't want to let me go. I was trying to get to the hospital before my friend fell asleep, or I would have just gone home to get a set of computer speakers that ran off a wall plug - it would have been the same amount useful, and cost me nothing, but I didn't want to take the time, and these Rat Shack twits were slowing me down. Let me GO! Sheesh. Then when I got to the hospital my friend was asleep anyway and we didn't use the speaker thing. So I will just bring some speakers I already own, to the hospital, next time. I'll take this thing back, along with their overwhelming pile of batteries. But I'll wait until Saturday to take it back, so I will have more time in case the idiots there turn it into another big slow debate. |

I couldn't resist opening the email either and was equally disappointed that it was only $10 off, especially when I know it's in backorder at that store. Not enough incentive to make me purchase something I have my eye on but don't really need.

Not everyone can just drive down to Borders if your stores were closed back in February.

I was at a local Borders on Tuesday. The hop had no more Kobo Touch left. All that had there the wifi and non-wifi versions and to be honest, the firmware on those make them useless.
