Delete?
What is the best way to delete things(books, fonts, etc.) from my Kobo Touch? I ask this because Kobo is a USB device and when you delete a font or a book it goes into the hidden trash file and still occupies space and is still on the device, just not visible from the library. I am wary of calling forth the dreaded Forced Factory Reset monster.

Right-click and select "Delete" instead of "Send to trash"?

"Right-click and select "Delete" instead of "Send to trash"? "
And that worked for you? No .Trash or .500Trash folders created? From the Kobo Touch not connected to a PC, I was selecting library, then to select the right of a novel's listing by Title, then Delete on the drop down NOT "Send to Trash"!! For the fonts I did as you indicated and they still went to hidden Trash folder on the device. |

I suppose it depends on what operating system you're using. Windows and especially Mac OS tend to leave all kinds of crap behind when you move or delete files. Linux, on the other hand, actually deletes stuff when you tell it to and doesn't leave behind hidden folders.

Um... I don't want to get into OS wars here but... Ubuntu 11 definitely has a trash on the desktop.... as does Fedora 11.

To delete books, go into the library on the Kobo Touch -- no USB required -- find the book in question, click on the stacked horizontal lines icon, and select "delete".
For most everyday tasks (assuming you are not loading unloading fonts daily), delete in the library works just fine and does not require messing with wires or OSes. |

I am using Fedora 15, however, NO PC is involved in the actual delete!
"To delete books, go into the library on the Kobo Touch -- no USB required -- find the book in question, click on the stacked horizontal lines icon, and select "delete"." This is what I am doing!! A hidden trash folder was created and the epub files for each deleted book were in the folder. My question is: Did I cause a Required Factory Reset when I deleted the hidden Trash folder? I deleted the folder last week and within a few days had to do a Factory Reset. Probably a coincidence? |

In that case it's a separate directory that the files are moved to temporarily. There are no hidden "trash" directories left behind like you have with Windows or Mac OS.

Hate to say but on both Fedora and Ubuntu the trash is hidden to the same degree as on Windows. A straight ls within MY home directory reveals no sign of a Trash; instead it's down in .local/share/Trash which, since entities starting with a . are not shown by default, is as hidden as it is on Windows.

It just dawned on me! The Kobo Touch has a Linux operating system. That's why the hidden Trash folder when using delete on the device? If so, how does one free up the memory without running into a forced reset? |

Most Linux distributions are highly customisable letting you add applets, gadgets... to tool bars, panel or desk top for most anything including trash cans. Can be simple as right mouse click on menu panel to add applets or download such from repositories.

Most of the file managers I have used lately treat the <delete> key as the safe delete (a.k.a. move to trash) and use <shift><delete> to actually delete a file.
