Narrowed my choice of (e)reader down to probably a Kobo.
Only want a reader for when I go camping, not something that'll make my toast, call up my horoscope, or give me a h....j.. if I want one ![]() Never had anything to do with these readers, & no shops 'round here that sell 'em - I live in the bush - 2 1/2 hr's from a large town - so can't check any out! After transfering the book to a Kobo, does it read the file name when it displays the book details...Author - Title etc? Reason I ask...I have a few books & magazines here (.mobi, .epub & .pdf). I've got them saved on my computer as eg: Douglas Adams - Young Zaphod Plays it Safe - short story [1986] or Douglas Adams - THHG Series #2 - The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe [1980] Yesterday I found Calibre & quite liked the idea of it ![]() After loading some books up in it, I noticed there were errors with some of my books eg: Author were Title should have been & visa-versa ![]() Spent quite a few hours editing, correcting & updating, only to find when I'd finished & closed the program down, it'd changed all my file names ![]() Now it meant that looking up a book without using Calibre, any book in a serious wasn't easy to spot, unless you know the order of each & every title for each & every series...my brain would be incapable of that ![]() Sorry, bit of a ramble ![]() |

ereaders read the ebooks metadata, so you need to ensure the title of the book reflects the filename of the ebook you have renamed, plus add any other information such as author, series, ISBN, synopsis and cover etc. My original Kobo is no exception to that, displaying the ebook metadata title and not the filename.
I always edit a freshly added ebook's metadata in Calibre before adding that ebook to my ereader. Calibre has excellent tools in order to harvest metadata from a multitude of online sources, given that correct ISBN, title and author are provided to assist the search. I do not bother with what Calibre does behind the interface. The way it handles my library and displays that library are more important. Last edited by sabredog; 08-09-2011 at 02:25 AM. |

Remember that once you add a book to Calibre that you should consider where and how it stores the book as irrelevant. While yes, Calibre DOES use files and directories, those to are a portion of it's database.
What many people do is to use a Plugboard within Calibre to automate the book naming on their eBook reader. For instance, with me, in Calibre The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is the book's name, by Douglas Adams in series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and is number 1.00. My plugboard is set to Code:
{series:re(([^\s])[^\s]+(\s|$),\1)}{series_index:0>2s| - | - }{title} |
