Freeman, R. Austin: The Mystery of 31 New Inn. PDF for Sony Reader. 12 Oct 2007.
A classic detective novel published in 1912. "Probably no detective in English fiction has commanded more serious intellectual respect than [Freeman's] Dr. John Evelyn Thorndyke" (Barzun and Taylor, A Catalogue of Crime).
Reformatted with corrections from the Project Gutenberg plain text. Not having a copy of a printed edition for comparison, I have bracketed my corrections of some apparent errors that I could not be sure were typos or scanning errors in the PG text rather than printer's errors or slips of the author's pen in the original. Attachment removed. Last edited by akiburis; 10-13-2007 at 12:33 PM. Reason: To remove attachment. |

Don't you think that this is a little redundant, given my previous post of:

It appears that most of the works on this site are posted in multiple formats; in fact, separate forums are provided for alternative formats. If the redundancy (if that's what it is) is objectionable in this instance, can you explain why?
And speaking of redundancy: does the use of 3 question marks in a row convey a special shade of meaning? Very urgent inquiry? Indignation? Astonishment? I ask because it seems to me merely cryptic and uncivil, but perhaps that is an unfair judgment. |

Oh, well, I've had a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes.

Hell, I just can't leave it alone. What I meant by a glimpse behind the scenes is this: I posted a response to HarryT's objection to my uploading of the file. HarryT posted a reply that I in turn posted an answer to. My answer was very quickly removed (not by me) and HarryT's post was edited, with no acknowledgment that I can see either of the editing or of the deletion of my post, although the editing was clearly inspired (if that's the word) by something I said in that post. Is there any sort of decent explanation of this?

akiburis,
I haven't deleted or edited anything you've written, and I'm the only one who's likely to have done so. What did your deleted post say? Please don't let's blow anything out of proportion here: I have no objection to your book as a book - it's very nicely done. The only reason for my original query about whether you felt it might be redundant is that there's really not much point in re-posting the same book for the same device in multiple formats, especially one that's in the middle of a series. The books in this series do refer to one another, and you get a lot more from them by reading them in sequence. Hence the reason for my posting the series in chronological order. Hope that clarifies the situation. |
