Refurbished Kindle - Now on Amazon.co.uk

You can now buy both Kindle models refurbished directly from Amazon.co.uk

The Wi-Fi version is £79.99 (normally £111) and the 3G version is £115.99 (normally £152).

Links:

Wi-Fi: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-lis...on=refurbished

3G: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-lis...on=refurbished

Both of them come with just a USB cable, rather than the USB cable and power adaptor included with the "new" Kindle.

The £79.99 Wi-Fi model seems like a very good deal.

They have been on there for at least 5 weeks as I ordered one 5 weeks ago.. It arrived next day and is without a doubt worth it..
Mine is for certain 100% brand new. It hadnt been out of its plastic covers.

They arrive in the US style boxes with as you say no Power Adapter, just the USB cable. There is no manual or quick start guide (does a new retail include that?)

I had a slight problem with mine though.. When it arrived it wasnt registered to my amazon account, and no manner of attempts to register it failed.

I called amazon and got through to the first line support who couldnt really understand my problem or my accent (im a geordie), after managing to convince them that I want doing anything stupid, they checked it out and couldnt figure it out.. (by this point I had already determined it was barred on the mobile network through some investigation myself - which I had told them straight away was my suspicion)

Eventually they put me through to the kindle support people who were english, and I explained the problem again. They looked it up and decided it was blacklisted as stolen or lost, and I wasnt the owner of the kindle so couldnt unblacklist it, I needed the original buyer to call them..

I mentioned (again) that I had bought it the day before as a refurbished unit.. they thought i'd got it off ebay, it took a while to convince them that i bought it refurbished from Amazon (they are sold by Amazon UK Warehouse-Deals on the marketplace), and eventually they discovered that it was a unit that had been sold, but reported lost in the post on the way to the original buyer. Therefore it had been blacklisted on the amazon server, and a replacement sent to the original buyer.

They sorted that out and said it would work when i tried to register it in a few hours.. It didnt, but the Wifi started connecting to the internet which it couldnt previously)

I called back and suggested maybe they needed to un-bar it with Vodaphone as well.. which they said would not need doing.

After 24 hours and several call backs (they are very good in amazon support i cant fault them) they eventually accepted it wasnt working and I needed to return it.. I suggested that instead they try contacting Vodaphone.. the person I spoke too went to talk to her manager and decided they hadnt properly unbarred it (with vodaphone as well as the amazon servers) and they tried that...

Suprisingly that worked at it allowed me to activate it.

My only complaint is how long it took since I told them the problem at the outset.. I cant however complain at all about the service, they were very good and appeared to have a good technical knowledge of the kindle hardware and software. (we discussed the possibility of reflashing it to resolve a missing certificate etc)

Overall very pleased with the discounted kindle, although if it doesnt work it may be worth asking if its blacklisted off the bat. It may help to save some time diagnosign all the connections like I had too.
