My aluratek libre pro is still in the mail, and I'm doubting my purchase.
I purchased it online when Target had the one day deal. I didn't want wi-fi and all the fancy stuff, just a basic e-reader and thought I had found it. Upon further research my public library uses overdrive and the libre pro is listed as uncompatible.
Link: http://www.overdrive.com/resources/d...ledevices.aspx Does this mean that my purchase is obselete unless I want to purchase books online? I'm hoping to use this with my son who has reading problems. As a way to enlarge text. Currently we read at night with the aid of a book light to cut out distractions and focus on the text. As a result I'll be needing books on a second and third grade level. Should I open the package, it comes preloaded with 100 books, but they are all upper level books? Thanks for anyones help, I'm so glad I found this site! |

Interesting... From looking at http://helpdesk.aluratek.com/index.php?pid=knowledgebase#display_entry,true,"21 7" they seem to talk about supporting ADE so I would have assumed that borrowing books was an option too!
And from this thread https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...=102396&page=3 I see a person using library books Last edited by PeterT; 08-02-2011 at 06:24 PM. |

I just got my aluratek from Target and it does indicate that you can return it to a Target store for a refund. I debated doing that, but I went ahead and opened up the box and began trying to setup/work with it After some effort, I was able to get a few books from the library (Overdrive) onto the Aluratek. You need to download and use Adobe Digital Editions. I can tell you that the 100 pre-loaded books are all probably high school level. I also don't know how well this would work for kids .. or kids books. A larger screen and/or color may work better. When I zoom the text, there are so few words on the screen that it feels odd to read (but maybe that's what you want.) The device is not lit, so you'd need a light to read by. I think the text is clear.

Good to have your company, Arcan. You should be able to buy or download free books from pretty well anywhere (those pre-loaded tend to be classics or public domains freely available elsewhere).
Here's a valuable tip for you. Do what thousands of us here at MobileRead and more than a million other ebook readers around the world swear by. Download free Calibre Library software. Excellent and just what you need to use your device to its best advantage. You can get the download here: http://www.calibre-ebook.com. Happy e-reading and best wishes. Neil |
