Cybook doesn't save its state
Hi,
I'm having a disturbing problem since last saturday. It seems that something has been corrupted in its internal memory, or at least the file or files in which it save its state: actual reading status, bookmarks, font size, etc. Any time I swich it off I loss all this status. Any sugestion on it?, is it possible to format internal memory and all this been automaticaly regenerated?, any file that I should backup? Thanks a lot!! |

That's definitivly weird.
State are saved in seprates files, i can't see why they would be deleted. It would seams that state isn't saved at all. Corrupted files maybe, or the cybook somehow lose write acces. Having all the "save" files corrupted and none of the others would be a weird coinsidance. ![]() |

Yes, this is what I was thinking...
I'm sorry if it was double-posting, but I've just found a thread in which it seemed to be the same or similar problem...: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...5&postcount=18 I don't know how to fix the internal memory (no SD card), other than using the "standard" tools in Win Xp.... Thanks. |

Do a "chkdsk" of the Gen3's file system while connected to the PC. It's 99% likely that that will fix the problem. Never, EVER, disconnect the Gen3 from the PC without using the "Safely Remove Hardware" tool in the system tray.

I've tried this one..., but it keeps in the same state...., it doesn't find any error. I always do "Safely Remove Hardware" before unpluging the it from ths USB. Thanks a lot... |

And if chkdsk didn't resolve anything, make a backup of your file, format it (in FAT32, not anything else!) and put you files back and it should be OK.

Ok, I'll try it...
One question on it..., is it enough for backup, to save all the files i can see?, just as a normal copy & paste operation, I mean. Thanks again. |

Just normal copy/paste is enought. There is no hidden file/folder, or anything like that, that you have to backup

Uuuuuf!!!, I've done it!!, Just backup the whole filesystem, and format the unit.
Then, just for testing purpoues..., I've swiched it on, and saw that it recreated the folder structure, and reinitilized the configuration (chose again language, etc). After that, I've uploaded to the device only the fonts and the ebooks..., and after that..... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() YUUJUUUUU!!! THAAAANKS A LOT TO ALL OF YOU!!! |

Glad to hear that it worked. From the symptoms, it was very likely an issue with the file system.

Yes!,
but what I don't understand is how it happened...., I haven't had connected it to any computer for a long time..., so it cannont be corrupted in this way.... It had too enough battery level. Ok, it doesn't matter now...., but I expect it not to happen again. |

There's no reason it should; the normal cause of a corrupt file system is not safely dismounting the device, but I know you said that you always did that. It's entirely possible that the original format was "faulty" in some way, and it wasn't until the Gen3 came to write to the "damaged" part of the file system that the trouble started. Anyway, fingers crossed it'll be OK now!

Uummmmmh!, maybe this will end too with the situations in which the device got frozen during a "long" reading session..., I hope so!

I suppose that strange things can happen if you are turning a page at the same time that low battery turns off the unit. |
