It's the only way to order any Kindle book (or book from B&N, as well).

Buy a pre-paid credit card and set it up as your payment at Amazon. It'll cost you a bit, but then you don't have to worry about overdoing one-clicks.

You could authorize one-click, click, and then unauthorize it.

Unless you designate the credit card on the Kindle page as your default. It really isn't one click ordering. It will take you to a page to put your cc info or if your card's on file then it asked which card to use before you place your order. So no accidental buys.

After you pre-order you can go to your account/manage payments and delete the card from your account if you want.

O, this sucks. I don't want that stupid 1-click. I've bought Kindle books without using it before. Why are they pushing it so hard now?

Yeah, I had a problem with that. I needed to apply a coupon code and I couldn't because the only way to buy it was through one click. I had to return it and then repurchase it. Here is the message I got from Amazon

I used to get free kindle books on my iphone all the time and they have never required me to use 1-click before. I think this comes from removing their store app from the iOS app - I can't think of any other reason.

I guess this kills me with kindle books - I don't use the desktop app. *sigh* I shop at amazon too much to have 1-click activated.

I think it's because it's a pre-order. The only times where I have to specify a credit card for something free is from the Amazon Android App store "free app of the day" or a free ebook pre-order.

I think you might be misunderstanding. The 1 click ordering on Kindle books in not the same as the 1 click buying on the other part of the site. You don't need to activate 1 click to buy a Kindle book. It uses a different 1 click system. There's not been any changes to buying a Kindle book on the site that I've noticed and I bought a few just the other day.

I don't have 1 click activated either.

So I just got off the phone with Amazon. They fixed the problem with the 1-click but told me that because The World of Stephanie Laurens is a pre-order they will still require a credit card because the publisher can charge a fee when the book gets released. She told me if I purchased it now at $0 but a price was added on release day I would be charged the set price.

If that happens, you can return it within 7 days for a full refund

Ask Koland or anyone here we have never been charge a price for a book that was free when we pre-ordered it. I wouldn't worry about what she said. What's on the invoice when you order it, is the price you pay. mine says $0

I've gotten alot of good books this way. When mistakes were made with several books by one publisher mark them free and then corrected an hour later to a normal price I still got them for free when they were released and wasn't charged anything.
