Nook STR - plugboard not applied
Hi all,
I've been the proud owner of a Nook STR since yesterday, unfortunately it seems plugboards do not work for this device. I have tried all sorts of different combinations such as changing format to any or device to Nook, Nook color or even 'any device' to no avail... Has anybody else been successful in applying plugboards for this one? Any help appreciated. Cheers. |

Plugboards modify the data inside the ebook, and therefore have an effect only if the ebook is modifiable (DRM might prevent this) and the device reads metadata from ebooks instead of filenames.
I don't know where the STR gets its metadata. If it reads metadata from filenames, then use the save template to set the filename appropriately. If it reads metadata from ebooks but the ebook metadata cannot be changed because of DRM or its format, then you are out of luck. |

Thanks chaley. The books are DRM free epubs so metadata changes should be ok.
Another thing is the change is not even visible inside Calibre when I view my device's library. I would have thought that even if the STR does not read metadata, I would still see the amended title in Calibre. Will try the filename instead and see what happens. Quote:
If you run calibre in debug mode and send a book, you will see whether or not a plugboard is used, and if so what the plugboard specifies. You can run calibre in debug mode by clicking on the down arrow next to the preferences button. EDIT: I was not thinking straight. The metadata is changed inside the book, but it is *not* changed in the metadata cache. This makes book matching work correctly, but also means that you won't see the changes to metadata made by plugboards. If your books are epubs, then open the epub with a zip program and look at the file inside named content.opf. You should see the changes there. Apologies for the confusion. ![]() Last edited by chaley; 07-29-2011 at 11:39 AM. |

Aha! So it turns out it works when setting device to Nook_color.
I hadn't checked the changes on the device after my first attempt as I assumed the new title would appear in Calibre. Thanks a lot for your help and the useful info ![]() |
