Just got a xoom, and was wondering does Calibre hook up to it, as I can't seem to get them to talk.

No. Calibre don't "hook up" directly to your Xoom. The reason is that there are many different ways you can use an Android device to read. It depends more on the reader app, than on the device. Different apps allows you to use different formats. Some even allows you to directly download books. You could even download directly from Calibre, if you run Calibre as a content server.
This is how I use Calibre to get books onto my Xoom, the manual way: First of all: I don't have any books with DRM. So that is a problem I don't have to deal with, makes life easy. I either remove or don't buy or use other sources, if a book has DRM. The app I use to read on my Xoom is Mantano. It handles both epub and pdf. There are many other apps, but I like Mantano. I have a custom column in Calibre for each device. Xoom, Opus. That makes it possible to tag books for transfer, and easy to select them. When I transfer to my Xoom I first write the books out to disk, I select epub and pdf as formats to write. The disk I write to is shared on my wifi network, so then I can use my Xoom to copy the folders with the books. After telling Mantano to sync the folders, I can start reading. Instead of using wifi to transfer the books, you could use a USB-connection, but for that you need the right drivers for your PC. You can download them from www.motorola.com. I prefer to use wifi. There are many, many other ways to use your Xoom as a reading device. This is just how I happen to do it. At the moment ... Last edited by Adoby; 07-07-2011 at 06:03 AM. |

And have you found a way to make Windows 7 assign the Xoom a drive letter? That would be the easiest thing, but it may not be possible. Thanks for the help! |
