well google did it. they beat amazon.

now i'm crap out of luck as i bought an amazon gift card and the book i need is only available as a GOOGLE EBOOK.

How has Google 'beat' Amazon? Because the book you want is only available through them?

Google's eBook store is STILL unavailable in the UK; also, Google don't (currently at least) allow users to upload their own eBooks for storage in the cloud.

They still have a way to go to 'beat' Amazon in my opinion.

Which book is it you are looking to purchase?

You could always purchase the book and convert it a format more suitable for the Kindle?

Furthermore, can't you get your gift card (assuming it's electronic) refunded?

yes but i only have cash atm that's why i bought the gift card.

plus google checkout is ridiculous looking. i don't feel safe giving them my info.

i'm going to pull the trigger on the darn thing. i think i have enough. stinks when you think you've prepared and you get thrown a curve like seeing google have a better selection.

Any ebook website is better than Amazon for me. I have a Sony and can't use their DRM locked stuff.

well i just tried to use google checkout and there was an error despite having all the information correct. looks like i'm doing without this ebook.

i did look at it in person at the library and didn't think i needed it, but now i think i do. oh well. google doesn't get my business. for shame, google!

ah ha! all is well my hearties! i got the thing to go through. carl carmer here i come! yeah yay!

all i have to do is convert the epub to kindle format with calibre.

It is an out of print book, so it isn't a big deal that most places don't have it. Definitely not something I would call victory. It is just one book. How many does Amazon have that google does not?

Google sort of specializes in the out of print, and even infamously went to court over it, to try and scoop up rights to distribute orphaned and out of print works.

well two books, but yeah i get what you're saying. i feel like google has the "important" books in fiction that amazon has, but they also have many obscure but equally valid non-fiction titles amazon doesn't
