Help please....
Sorry if this is a duplicate, but I thought I'd posted this, but it's not up so probly not................. anyway,
Anyone have any suggestions for this poor soul, please - I don't know the solution, but it seems a battery/charging type thing, but I felt sure one of our expert tech-savvy gurus would at least have heard of similar cases before.......... " I have a sony PRS650 that SUDDENLY stopped working. Yesterday I read, left it in stand-by, reopened a couple of hours later, stard reading but, when I wanted to chenge page it was locked. Nothing happend. I left it like that all night and it doesn't go in standby,. it stays as it is, locked. I tried to connect it to the computer but it doessn't happen anything (the computer doesn't see it) and to electricity but NO THING. I tried with the RESET button but nothing. I have been using it for 7 month and it has always worked perfectly...... " Any offers gratefully recieved ...... |

Yes, you had posted this in another thread, I saw it earlier today.
Most likely the battery in the unit is dead. A good long charge on a wall charger should be done, and then perhaps a reset will be needed. |

If the power is interrupted or lost, the page will stay the same on an e-Ink screen. I agree with pidgeon92 that the battery might have died suddenly and that charging it will bring it back, however, you will probably have to replace the internal battery shortly. The unit may have a defect and should still be under warranty, I would contact Sony's tech support, here in the US they are very helpful.

Sony's a pain in the ass when it comes to chargers. If the battery drops down to dangerously low levels, it tends to shrink up and try and protect itself.
Your best bet is definitely going to be a good night's rest on a wall charger. If you still are having trouble after that, then try this (Pasted from the MR Wiki) Generally, any wall charger will work as long as it has a USB/MicroUSB port. Most cellphones use this connector, so any microUSB charger will work. Quote:

Yep, don't rely on a USB charge or on Sony's over-optimistic battery level meter in the screen. You need a tough full charge from the mains every week or so. I run a long charge every week and never let the meter fall below 60%. Since I made this a habit two or three years ago, I''ve never had the slightest hitch with my PRS 505. Before then, I used to hit the kind of snag you've described. Sony knows this flaw. For a company producing such superb software, it's a mystery to me that they don't include a wall charger and adapters in the package. Luck and best wishes. Neil

Because a single over discharge of a lithium polymer battery can damage it to teh point it will not work. And in extreme cases, can cause the battery to "vent with flames" when trying to recharge. Be glad Sony readers are smart enough to protect the battery and your house. And yes, houses have been burnt down by faulty lipo battery placks. |

Yup, Carpetmojo. But Sony's range is relatively highly priced anyway. I don't think a few cents at their end and an extra buck or two on the buyer's is going to crash sales. What's happening by supplying only a USB cable and claiming it's good enough damages Sony's reputation for quality hardware and is driving some new users potty.
I first came to Mobile read two-and-a-half years ago with the same Sony problems we see over and again even now. It was immediately fixed on advice within hours from Harry T and others who advised me to get hold of a mains charger. Never the glimmer of a problem since. Happy and smooth e-reading with the same old PRS 505 after all this time. One of the reasons I stuck around was in appreciation of what these forums and generous members could achieve that manufacturers and stores can't or won't. And the general advice we've swapped has certainly been priceless to me. Cheers. Neil |
