Moderators - Green or not?

In this post, it is stated that not all moderators have the standard green name badge.

Is this true? If so, why? Just curious.

There are actually different levels of access.

Those of us who have full moderating rights are what the system calls "Editors", and all our names are shown in green. There are also people who have moderating rights within one particular forum, and their names are not shown in green.

It does, thanks - although it doesn't answer the 'why'.

I suppose I'm confused about how I would tell the difference between one of these unmarked moderators and an annoying busybody.

Really? So we have a bunch of people who have limited moderating rights, but we're not allowed to know who they are nor where they hold those rights without asking about each one individually.

NB. I know that moderating is entirely at the whim of the site owner and I'll just have to live with it, but it does seem a decidedly odd way of going about it

You're very welcome to ask, but I don't know if anyone can point you to any list which will give you the answer. Most of the annoying busybodies moderators are probably exactly the people you'd expect them to be - eg Kovid and a few of the other prominent Calibre people in the Calibre forum. But I don't think we actually have a list anywhere. I've never seen one, at least.

Just so we're clear, I made it very clear that 'annoying busybodies' and 'moderators' were different sets of people.

I wouldn't want to get into trouble. Especially with all those secret, ninja moderators wandering about.

I think you have a point here, Bilbo. Perhaps it would be a good idea to give the "half mods" a special colour too.

Thanks Billi. Interesting list. Includes at least two people who have died and a number who haven't been around for quite some time. Now I know who to be nice to.
