Google Mail and Workflow problems

Let me just shout to the world that my PE is my very first Android device, so I'm most likely missing something obvious here, but...

I have several domains for websites where I used Google to set up email accounts, calenders, etc. I would love to access these on my PE, but so far everything I've tried (short of rooting it and messing around with programmy stuff I have no clue about) hasn't worked- I've tried entering my account info (username/address/password) in both email apps (K9 and Froyo) and just get an error message. I tried accessing it through the web address using the Browser and the page just loads...and loads...and loads in some endless loop. I'm wondering if it's an Android problem since my brother couldn't access the account through the browser on his phone either. I haven't been able to find a Gmail app to install either. Is there anyway I can access my Google domain emails without rooting the device?

Also, my main reason for getting my PE (beside the fact that it's totally like Penny's computer book from the old Inspector Gadget cartoons) is to use it as a portable office/writing device. Now the set up I have on my PC is simple- labeled folders with files inside. I've managed to set up an empty folder on the home screen with no problems- but I can't figure out how to get my files inside it. Like I said above, it might be something obvious, but can someone point me in the right direction? Or would it be better to just work out a new way to organize my writing?

I'll let other more knowledgeable folk answer the questions about the various mail applications. But here's the answers to your techie concerns:

1. To install the official gmail application, you'll need to root your device. Fortunately, it's a relatively easy process and carries little risk. Installing the gapps, on the other hand, might be a little bit of a hassle. You can find the instructions how to do this on the "tweaks" thread at the top of the forum.

2. You can move files and folders around with the built-in ES File Explorer application. All you need to do is drop your files on the sdcard or hook your device up via USB. Then, when you enter ES File Explorer, just browse to the /sdcard directory (if you copied via USB) or the extsdcard directory (If you copied via sdcard). Unfortunately, Android isn't exactly designed like a traditional operating system; it's not really built to easily move around documents. As such, your best bet is probably to work with some kind of cloud service. I highly recommend Dropbox, even though the evil bastards now technically stipulate that they own the rights to your documents. If you're always needing to move your files around via USB, you're going to get tired of your eDGe pretty fast.

I'll let all the other people discuss the particulars of the other e-mail applications. However, in my experience, you can't really beat Google's official one. I would root my phone and venture to the distant ends of the Earth to make sure it worked.

Hmm... I use a google email address on the regular email programs (original and Froyo) just fine. So it's absolutely possible.

What is the error message you're getting?

I'm getting the message : unable to connect to server
Can I ask- in the first field (domain /username), do you just eave the field populated as is? Or is there something beside the username that I should enter?
