Lightbulb Palm OS 6 Cobalt Screen Shots

Today I downloaded the Palmsimulator for the upcoming OS6 Cobalt (surprised my developer account still works as I haven't used it for ages). On the surface, it doesn't look much different that what we already know from OS5.
I wonder why Palmsource does not focus more on the development of its ROM applications, like Sony does very successfully. A more advanced launcher or a more advanced datebook would be nice indeed.

Attached you find some screenshots I made for you.

Thanks for the pics.

It doesn't look all that different than the OS 5.2.1 (or whatever) that my T|3 runs (which is OK, by the way).

One thing that I was hoping would be implemented was the ability to add a picture to a "Contact" on the handheld. I think that some Sony's can do this, right? How difficult could it be?

I know that this major OS release will bolster PalmSource, and that after it people are predicting doom-and-gloom for the company, but if all of the licensees have to pay a licensing fee, then they'll always be OK, right? Or do they have to depend on the handheld companies to continue to innovate and sell handhelds to make their scratch?

I ask because I am completely happy with the T|3, and don't really see myself upgrading anytime soon, especially not for the sake of upgrading (and not if I can keep this one out of the puppy's water dish!) So if I don't bite on the whole "OS Cobalt" craze, then PalmSource will still be OK, right?

Or will we be flashing Linux onto our existing PDA's when PalmSource goes belly up?
Hmmmm....
