Calibre won't start after installation - FAQ didn't help

Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum, but already tried to find a solution for my problem, which didn't work out obviously.
I have tried to install calibre in my PC, but can't start it. I've already tried the hints from the FAQ (re-install etc.) but that didn't help.
I've also made a screenshot from the debug command-line and hope that someone can help me solving my problem.
By the way: I am running windows 7 home premium 64 bit, Intel i5 650 processor with 4GB of RAM

That message is because (for some reason) the NUL device is not correctly installed and running on your Windows 7 system. I remember once having this problem on my own system, and was able to find an answer via Google on how to fix this, although I cannot remember off-hand what that answer actually was..

Just to add:
NUL: (or /dev/nul in Linux) is a valid place to divert message output so as to not bother the user with screens of background process messsages.

Ever hear: "send it to the Bit Bucket"?
follow itimpi's lead.

For reference, how did you fix the NUL problem?

sorry, forgot to add this...

so, I went to the device manager in my control panel, changed the view to show the hidden devices

then found the NULL driver -->options and activated it

in my case, I had to do it via the registry as the simple way didn't work out: this is done by opening the following folder in the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SYSTEM->CurrentControlSet->Services->Null

the values of "Start" and "Type" should be "1" (Hex); click OK and restart, done!

Hope that helps if the same problem comes up with someone else...
