overdrive and pocketbook

Are the Pocketbook readers compatible with the Overdrive library system? I have a friend who wants to get an ereader with an integrated cover like the pocketbook, but wants to be able to borrow library books. Are they (Pocketbooks) available in Australia?

I can't help you with the compatibility with Overdrive as I don't use it, but I have a PB360 (not plus), live in Melbourne and bought it from the US Pocketbook distributor. Shipping was around $50 and it arrived in perfect condition within a week. I love it to pieces.

As far as I know, you can only order them from overseas, which can be scary if you've never done it before, but it's worked out fine for me. I've had mine for around 18 months now.

Don't use Overdrive myself, too, but Pocketbook understands Adobe's DRM for ePub and pdf - maybe this information helps.

I'm actually making enquiries for a friend, I already have two readers which I love. Have to say the white one does look gorgeous and I'm a sucker for anything white but I think there would be a divorce if I got a third,I only got the second because the first isn't compatible with Overdrive even though it reads epub. Which is why I need to know whether the pocketbook is ok with it as my friend is a library user, don't want her to get one she's disappointed with.

Does Overdrive work with your Sony? Then it should work with the Pocketbook, too, as they use the same ePub DRM. But hopefully someone with a Pocketbook using Overdrive will join this thread soon.

Yes it works with the Sony, but not with my Eco eclipse which also reads epub. It's not the file format, it's something to do with the device's compatibility with Overdrive. There is one Pocketbook listed on their website but it doesn't seem to be the 360.

yes you can read book you borrow from libraries that use the Overdrive system.

Just chiming in to say that yes, the Pocketbook 360 (and the 360 Plus) work just fine with Overdrive books. Of course, you have to go through ADE to get the book, but then you just have to "drag" the book over to the reader.
