When the Touch will be available in Europe?

Hello

If I understand correctly, the device is available only in USA and Canada. What is the point of supporting European languages if is not being sold there? I can't even order it from Borders, because my country is not listed among their shipping locations (not to mention that to import it in the EU I have to go through the surreal bureaucratic world of our customs that even Kafka could have not imagined.)

Have a look here, that might explain some of it

At this point, the Kobo Touch does not support European languages, it's English only. They won't sell it in Europe until their multi-language firmware is ready (which may be version 2.0 and upwards), and what other factors there certainly are as well. I think they use 1.9.x to iron out bugs and quirks that are basically language-independent, and will move over to 2.x for multi-language.

Thank you for your response.

So the European release date remains a mystery.

You may want to look at this thread from the News forum regarding the opening of a German Kobo site. Apparently the German firmware Kobo Touch will be released in August.

According to today's news, the answer is August, in Germany.

Just to be clear, Kobo ereaders (WiFi) are for sale in bricks and mortar stores in Canada, US, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong (and now, or shortly, in the Caribbean) ... these stores include book chains, big box electronic stores, office supply stores and big box discounters ... and the latest model, the Touch, is currently in stores in Canada and the US, expected in Germany in August (a few weeks from now) and -- not announced, my guess only -- will roll out into the countries and stores currently selling the WiFi in the coming weeks.

There is no reason to think they will not also be in bricks and mortar stores in other European countries before year end as online bookstores open for France, Netherlands, Spain and Italy.

I asked WH Smith (which sells the Kobo Wifi in the UK) and they had no idea when the Touch would be available, but my guess would be around the same time as it appears in Germany.
