iLiad Software 2.11 to be Released Sept. 26th & Feature List

Taken from the company's i-to-i blog.

A quick preview of some of the features and functionalities that you can expect in software release 2.11.

  1. Definable Startup behavior
You are now able to define the startup behavior of the iLiad, like opening a certain folder or loading the last read document.
  2. Stylus Calibration
You can now re-calibrate your Stylus via the iLiad settings menu. This feature was developed as a community project with the help of community developers.
  3. Improved Connection Manager
The Connection Manager has been improved to make it easier to find and connect to wireless networks; in addition we have also added support for the dial-up functionality of modem CF cards (GSM-data, CDMA).
  4. Time zone Selection
You are now able set your local time offset to GMT so that your scribble files will show the correct local time.
  5. Timed content download and device wakeup
With the Timed Connect you will be able to let your iLiad connect to the iDS at a set time. In case the iLiad is switched off it will wake up, connect to iDS, download any available content and power down again afterwards.
  6. Multi Delete in Contentlister
You can now select up to 6 items in the Contentlister and delete them in one go.
  7. Generic CPU frequency scaling
In order to save power, the CPU frequency has been scaled down when the processor is idle. Saving about 10% battery life.
  8. Forward/Back buttons in PDF viewer
You can now easily navigate through PDF documents using hyper links via the forward and back button.
  9. Added Spanish language support
The iLiad interface will now also support the Spanish language, in addition to English, German, French and Dutch.
  10. Improved Mobipocket support for HTML-based content
The Mobipocket viewer will offer better support for more HTML-based content, including converted CHM files.

Software release 2.11 is scheduled for Wednesday 26th of September

Wow, this is a big update - I'm looking forward to 1,2,3 and 7 in particular.

7 says 10% battery saving. That is thus at least 1hour more.
Will 5 also be accessible for 3rd paryy programs? Say...the comics downloader and the feedbooks rss feeds?

It uses a similar type of frequency scaling as in the enhanced ipdf. But it uses it all the time (not only in pdf's, but in every app and the contentlister).

It sets the time zone system wide, so every program that uses the time will be correct.

This is very good news. Thanks.

I like experimenting with new features

BTW. The warranty of my iLiad expired (bought it last year september). It still works, the battery is strong enough, although the screen is darker. I wish irex would develop a 3rd gen iLiad with better quality display and proper suspend, and I think I could not resist to buy it again... Sorry for the OFF

Yes, it would be pretty good to use this for Feedbooks too. Seems like it's based on iDS only for the moment though... Any idea Adam ?

Unfortunately, it only connects to IDS. I don't think it's possible to schedule this to download from other sources as of yet. I'll dig into it after the release to see exactly how it's doing it.

IDS only act like an inbox though... We need to create a real cache system for our RSS feeds on Feedbooks in the upcoming months, maybe we could imagine dropping this cache in someone's inbox too ?

Why not use the iDS ? It is designed to deliver content from publishers to iLiad users, what if feedbooks would be a publisher ?

Anyway if you are interested drop me a line

Excellent.

Will our community developers care to port their enhancements to the new iPDF? I'm thinking of the new bookmark/comment feature, in particular.

Well the main reason is that the current iDS system can't do what we're doing with the app: we have much more features than just content delivery, you can get book recommandations for example and then download those directly on the iLiad.

iDS seems like a great idea for simple news delivery, but for more advanced browsing or searching, you need a bit more of UI and code.

It'd be interesting to have a chat on this subject once again though, I'm sure we can create a more interesting experience for iLiad users together (and also thanks to Adam B amazing porting skills ^_^ ).

Just in time....
I just received my iLiad (v.1.5)

Too bad iRex servers are down for maintenance for the next 4 hours....
I been playing a little bit with my new toy, and since I've been lurking here for so long, hearing about your odysseys.... using my iLiad was almost second nature.

I'm happy to finally join the club and I want to thank all of you, cause the iLiad wouldn't be the same without this community.

I've just updated my device info DeGodefroi.
Still, imagine soft v. 3.5: by that time we'll have color video-capable displays on our iLiads...

Hmmmm yes I see that. But what about iDS for sending the rss feeds and such (the kind of inbox stuff) automatically and when you want to do more you are awake and actively using the iliad and use the feedbook program to download the additional stuff?

On the other hand, will Irex allow 3rd party programs to use the automatic download of content with on/off and such? I know it might compete with iDS services. But you could work out some special SDK for that maybe?

Just storming my brains here
