SONY PRS 300

Hello All,

1. As I mentioned in Introduce Yourself thread, I am a 65 year old retired man from Bangalore India.I am an avid bookreader with a good collection of PPROPER BOOKS!! as well as Ebooks.I however found that I cannot read these books on my Desktop continuously.I therefore bought a Sony PRS 300 through Ebay and just today the reader has been delivered and is getting charged even as I am typing this message.India however does not have any Sony shops dealing with Ebook Readers and therefore the Warranty is of no use here.I have to be thus doubly careful that nothing goes wrong with this Device.

2. I am therefore posting a few queries and will be grateful for your answers.

Do I need to instal Sony's E Book Library?

I have Calibre E book Management on my Computer. Will this suffice to carry on with my reding or do I need to instal any other software.

If I am not using the E Reader for say 30 minutes or so, Do I need to to do Device Shutdown or just switch off the Reader to conserve the Charge.

3. These are just a few of my immediate questions. I know I will have many more gradually as I start using the Reader.I only seek your patence.

Thanks,

Manju

Hi Manju and welcome to Mobileread.

The PRS-300 is a great little ereader!

If you wish to read purchased DRM protected ePUB's, then you will need to install Adobe Digital editions software on your PC to ensure your PRS-300 is registered to use ADE DRM.

As the PRS-300 default ebook format is ePUB, you can purchase an ePUB ebook from a variety of ebook estores such as Kobo, Smashwords (no DRM), Diesel etc. So really the Sony Reader software is not a necessary suite to install.

Calbre is a great program perfect for keeping your ebook collection organised and to transfer your ebooks (even DRM protected ones) to your PRS-300.

With both my PRS-300 and PRS-650, I get excellent battery life just switching them onto standby and not switching them off entirely.

Hope that helps you.
