Partial PDF support: no JPEG2000 :(

Hi. I just noticed that JPEG2000 compressed images won't show in PDFs on PRS-950. I'd consider it does not fully support PDF because of that.

Any clues? Maybe firmware update would solve this one?

For everything you wanted to know about mobile PDF support, see Q&A: What PDF version for eBooks?. The bottom line is that whatever Apple supports Adobe tries to support too.

Bill McCoy mentions that RMSDK 9.1 (released last December) supports JPEG 2000 images, and I guess I am a bit surprised that the PRS-950 is using an earlier version of mobile ADE. Only a bit, because Sony has a "don't spend any money on software development" policy for their Readers.

Thank you for the reply and a great article. So I imagine Sony would ignore it and won't issue a firmware update. Pitty.

I spend some time reading, and tried to contat Sony about this issue. It is extremely frustrating experience, their customer support seems not to exist...

And what Sony did is basically putting old software (Adobe Mobile...), not communicating this in presale materials. Grrr.

It's like Dell would install Windows 3.1 on it's new notebooks.

As if being stuck with image-based PDF wasn't frustrating enough, thank you so much Sony!

Sony rarely updates firmware even on there current line of readers. With the 950 apparently being discontinued I wouldn't hold my breath awaiting a firmware update from them.
