Request trying to use market

I've done everything I can think of and everything that I've found posted throughout the forums to try and get the android market working, but have had no luck.

I started off using titanium backup to get the market (and other google app files) from a rooted Droid 1 and had no problem getting them installed on the PE, but the market would never even open correctly. Over the past several days, I've tried using different market versions, but none did the trick. The error messages I get with the different versions range from "An error has occurred, Force Close", "A server error has occurred, retry, cancel", to "Server Error, Force Close".

Not once has it even gotten to the app screen. Most of this work has been done with the same backed up data from my rooted phone. Just different app versions.
I've also tweaked the fingerprint in build.prop to a few different things, but I think that only helps if the market actually opens, if I'm understanding it correctly.

I got my google account on the edge by using the youtube work around. Would that affect anything? I'm also using the tweaked firmware v.1.01.001 from here. I'm out of ideas here and any help would be greatly appreciated.

As you will have seen from other threads the market works for some people and not others. Not being able to use the market is not the end of the world as those of us in other parts of the world have found.

One thing I must say - DON'T fiddle with the system files! Doing so has lead to tears for many people and in some cases a total right-off of the device.

If there is a particular app that you want that is only available on the market - most that work on the eDGe devices are available from other sites - ask here and someone can usually provide it if it is a free app.

My first thought echoes ivantj's - how important is market to you? When mine was malfunctioning I found I could usually find an alternate source for whatever I wanted. Now having said that - market has its advantages and for most people is a desirable app source. Have you considered going back to stock Ermine and going the YouTube & rooted phone route?

The market is more of a "want" than a "need", but it is a big want. I use amazon and slide marketplaces mostly now, but still like google's better. Also, I was doing the rooted phone / youtube route to try to gain access. I just couldn't get it to work. I could probably try doing it on the stock version of ermine, but I don't think that would change much.

What did you change in the build.prop file? Have you tried undoing those? My lcd density tweak caused a market problem for me(running stock ermine). Tweaks to that file can have unexpected consequences. Also keep in mind it might be a combination of changes causing the problem.ALso freewarelovers is a good source.

all I changed was ro.build.fingerprint. I tried several times with it unedited and it didn't work then either.
