ereader/ Overdrive compatability

I finally managed to join the Singapore library, and when I borrowed an (Epub) book, it downloaded and opened in ADEon the computer with no trouble. However when I loaded it onto my reader it wouldn't open. I emailed the library and was just told that I had to join (duh!). So I trawled through the stuff about Overdrive and found out that Hanlin readers are not compatible with Overdrive. Is there a way to get around this? I have had no trouble when buying books with DRM.

Not legally. You don't own the book, so you have no right to strip the DRM.

But doesn't ADE make it so that I can read it with DRM? I though that was what it did (I'm not very techie). I can read it on the computer, just won't open on the ereader.

yes, but you are again going to have to trawl around the internet to find it - sorry.

Board rules prevent us from giving you explicit instructions here although if you search you can find numerous threads on Library DRM. Google Apprentice Alf DRM.

But only on compatible devices. If your device isn't compatible, you're out of luck.

How did you load it onto your ereader? you need to do it with ADE, which serves as 'proxy' for Adobe RMSDK-powered devices. There are at least some Hanlins that will work:

http://blogs.adobe.com/digitalpublis...ported-devices

To use ADE, first attach your ereader, then launch ADE. The ereader should show up in ADE's browser panel. Then drag and drop the book onto the ereader icon.

And that's exactly what I did. The point being that the books open in ADE on my computer, but when I load them onto the ereader (as you said) they don't open, unlike the books that I have bought with DRM. Overdrive lists Hanlin as being incompatible along with a heap of others, it's not that there's a problem with ADE, it seems to be a problem with Overdrive. As the Hanlin reads Epub I had assumed it would be ok for library use.
