Purchasing a replacement battery

I was wondering if it's worth purchasing a new battery (and replacing the old one) for my kindle.

I've seen places where they sell them like here:
http://www.batterybay.net/Battery-fo...s-abd003sl.htm
(I am NOT saying go buy it from here. I'm just using this web-site as an example).

I've observed that my battery life has decreased slightly. Not significant enough to annoy/irritate me, but enough for me to think about my options.

The original Kindle battery has 1750mAh and these batteries are 1900mAh...so longer battery life I assume.

So... Is it worth doing this? Has anyone else done this before?

I bought a battery for my Kindle 2 from eBay. Exact same specs as the original.

These batteries start to die from the date of manufacture so keep in mind that it doesn't make economical sense to replace it until the old one is really gone.

Repl Battery with Tools

There is a seller on ebay, who also has their own website;
http://www.newpower99.com/
This seller also includes a 'tool kit' with most Kindle batteries, as well as a link to a video on 'how to' which is quite diferent in 1st gen thru 3rd gen
I have not purchased from them yet, but wanted to pass this along.
I have NO affiliation with these sellers, just found them searching.

If you mean the battery for the Kindle 3 you have listed in your profile - the Kindle isn't even a year old yet because they didn't start selling them until July 2010. If it has degraded to the point where you even notice it, Amazon will do it under warranty. That'd be your best option.

I know it's not necessary. I think a part of me just wants to open my kindle up and actually do something haha.

yah I've considered contacting Amazon but the batteries offered online can store more energy. So I think my real reason is to extend my battery-life per charge.

we have a spare Kindle 3 battery from a replacement kit that was never used. does anyone know if this battery will work in my Kindle DXG?

the spare Kindle 3 battery has a larger rated current (about 1700mAh or so) so i assume if it fits it would improve my DX battery performance.

are they the same physical size and voltage?

that's where i'd look first. Maybe also google the serial number and see what pops up.

Maybe it's just past experiences with battery powered electronics... But, I really don't trust batteries that aren't OEM. One too many "reputable" battery merchants have sold me melting lemons.

Of course, user error may have played a part. I **AM** a bit of a nimrod, sometimes.

I am a "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" guy, so i wouldn't recommend changing batteries for a small battery life gain. If it leaks, you might have to say goodbye to your kindle.
