New Kindle 3 User WiFi HELP!!?!?
Frustrated new Kindle 3 user can't get WiFi running.
I've tried logging into my personal WiFi at home, as well as a free WiFi SSID as well, and all I get is "Unable to Connect to Wi-Fi Network. Wi-Fi network connection failed. your kindle is unable to connect to the Wi-Fi network "XXXXXXXX". Would you like to enter the password again or manually set up this network?". I've even tried setting up the network manually and it's not working (I know I'm in range of the network because I'm sitting directly in front of my Shaw router). Help?!?!? Thanks, Jenniveve |

What kind of wifi do you have? The Kindle can only access b/g networks. Check out this thread for more information.

I'm assuming your Wi-Fi is built into a modem box, is the antenna for the Wi-Fi properly attached? If the antenna is loose or missing you will have trouble getting a strong signal even for a laptop/netbook so I assume you would also have similar problems connecting your kindle to it as well.

My kindle works fine on "n" network. Here are some items I would try.
Be very careful typing in your password, be sure the caps are in the right setting as its case sensitive. Try starting over with setting up the network Reset the router and/or modem. You might try setting your network to transmit the SSID. If it connects then shut off the SSID and it might work. This is done in your router settings (assuming you have a router). I've had this work on two or three units in recent months. |

I started the previous (linked) thread, so I won't go into all my woes, but it can be a PITA for sure, and it would have been more frustrating for not such a techie me if my husband hadn't been the one figuring out the router stuff. It's why I finally just gave up and got the 3G version, which turns out to be a wise decision for me, esp. since we'll be in Europe later this summer, and just in case I just HAVE to have a new book for some reason, I'll be able to get it.
Which was a digression, sorry. Mostly just wanted to say good luck with this, as it is not as easy as it should be. I'm puzzled about connecting it to a "n" router since we couldn't, and also the info. I found said they don't work with n, but I wonder if it varies from router to router? |

Most "n" routers have a b and g compatibility mode, where they use whatever mode is appropriate for the device connecting.

Sounds about right... Had next to no troubles connecting to my Belkin 'N300' Surf router... apart from typing the password incorrectly a couple of times, which is easy to do on the kindle. Has 'a', 'b', 'g', 'n' - in the specs... not exactly sure what that means but could mean it is compatible with all sorts. |

Are you somewhere other than America? I'm guessing Kindles are built primarily for Americans and might not work in the extra frequencies European routers use. Log into your router and force it to use a lower channel, see if that works.

The OP hasn't come back with any further details or updates, but my experience has been that that depending on your router, you do sometimes have to set them to be compatible with G/or B networks. I recently upgraded my router, and in previewing the manuals before I bought mine, it seemed that the more expensive and/or newer models assume an N connection initially, and by default don't support G or B devices (they also run faster if everything is N, which can be important to some people).

I have the same problem, but I think it maybe because my local network forbid my connecting to the amazon's server. And I'm tring to figure out the method to solve this problem.
