				Can't run after upgrade 8.5

Tried installing 0.8.5 - everything was working previously (8.4) and the install seemed to go fine, but now I can't run Calibre. Whenever I try to run it I get "The program can't start because cygwin1.dll is missing from your computer. try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." I've re-downloaded the install package, and re-installed, but wanted to see if anyone had any ideas before I try to do an uninstall or anything. I'm running on Windows 7, if that helps. Thanks for any ideas. |

calibre doesn't use cygwin so you likely have something interfering with your calibre install. I suggest uninstalling calibre, then searching for calibre.exe and deleting any folders where its found. Then re-installing. And un-installing will not afect your books/settings.

I couldn't get 8.5 to install at all. I've never had any problems with previous versions. 8.4 works fine for me though, so I figure I'll just wait till 8.6 comes out and see if that one installs before worrying about it.

Thanks Kovid, I'll try an uninstall and see where I get with it. update: uninstalling and deleting the Calibre directory worked. I still have no idea what interfered. Last edited by junkml; 06-12-2011 at 11:38 AM. |

I also had problems with installing 0.8.5 from the .msi installer. Got a message that the .cab was corrupted ... got similar errors when downloading the portable version and unpacking it ; corrupted files. I downloaded both again, but this time from Sourceforge and had no problems at all installing and unpackng .... |

I couldn't recall what the error code was, so I downloaded it again to try and install just so I could tell you exactly what the error was, but this time, low and behold, it installed fine. I guess the first time I downloaded it, it must have gotten corrupted during the download. Anyhow, it works fine!

 1) Do it for Known (personally white-listed) sites. 2) Do NO surfing/mail downloading while during that time. 3) Attach no media that has not been previously vetted. As to 'Firewall', that can usually stay active, but unless you are on a Public WiFi or have opened up ports on your home Router, the 'nasties' can't force their way past NAT at the door. | |

Yeah, I'm gonna turn off my anti-virus apps during the install anway, so I might as well turn them off during the download too. I leave the firewall on though, mostly because it's a pain to turn off.
