Enduring Love by Ian McEwan

anyone here read it and can give me their opinion?

The blurb seems interesting, but at the same time I get the feeling it's one of those books that would make me want to kill someone xD

so i need other opinions

I thought it was okay, but not great. I absolutely hated the upper-middle-class couple that the novel is about. I quite often enjoy flawed characters (ie. The Human Stain by Philip Roth), but I wouldn't have minded offing those two.

The story with the obsessed guy is also more motivated by McEwan's personal agenda than it is credible. It seems terribly one-sided. That particular character isn't developed very well at all. The thing is, he could have been the most interesting part of the novel if it had been done better.

It ends somewhat ambiguously.

....one of those books I couldn't finish! I looked at the end and it was ambigious, so I was pleased I hadn't wasted too much time on it! I didn't like his other books either.

I never finished it either, but I still very clearly remember that opening scene with the balloon. It's worth reading that first chapter, which really is great.
