The articles at the time mentioned ebook readers from 3M that would be available for lending from libraries as part of the platform/ecosystem.

The American Library Association conference where it was to all debut was this past week and it turns out the reader is the TXTR hardware, but probably with an updated look /specs

Sure hope they change that white bezel to a black one.

But the most important detail on the txtr Reader is that the design is 2 years. Compared to the current market, it is both underpowered and overpriced.And now 3M will be selling it to a small niche. They will have to take a loss or charge far more than the thing is worth.

Good luck with that, 3M. With $100 Kobos and $114 Kindles so readily available, you've got your work cut out.

they wont be for sale to consumers , according to what i read previously about the platform. they will be available to libraries as part of 3Ms library platform/ecosystem so libraries can lend the readers.

I know and I would hope libraries won't waste tax dollars buying overpriced hardware. I'm not holding my breath on that, though.

3M plans to install “discovery” terminals in libraries that will allow patrons to browse the eBooks being offered. They will be able to navigate a pure color touchscreen experience with an emphasis on “ease of use.” The service’s eBooks are compatible with PCs, Macs, iPads, Nooks, and Androids. Using their personal devices patrons can browse, check out and read eBooks all without leaving the app. If a book you want is new or popular you can with the terminal add your name to a waiting list for the digital and/or print content.

Finally as many of you may or may not know Txtr and 3M have a solid relationship because 3M invested heavily into the company. This is why 3M was using Txtr e-reader to demonstrate the cloud library lending service.

It's good to know that it'll be compatible with multiple devices and not just Txtr.

That's actually kinda cool if they were for libraries to lend. It would help introduce people to ereaders, I think.

I think that libraries should spend the money on ebooks and let library patrons buy their own ereaders. These devices are not that durable and will end up having to be replaced over and over again.

If they were being made for libraries to lend then maybe so, but at the moment they are not. The libraries still need to spend that money on DTB's and ebooks.
