PDF Document questions
Hello All;
New guy here. 1st let me say thank you to all the people who have taken the time to consolidate information for those of us new to the edge products. I bought a PE on Woot and have been having a good time with it. It's versatility is pretty close to what I have been looking for. Did the Ermine upgrade, and added a few Apps. It's coming along. I bought it primarily to consolidate a huge collection of PDF documents, and to use as a teaching tool. (I'm a military flight instructor) Navigating those documents, even after using Calibre to change the format to EPub is painful at best. (My Nook color is the same way, which is what started me down this road) The questions boil down to this: Is there an easy way (PDF or EPub) to edit the documents to make a link from the Table of Contents to specific chapters or figures or illustrations? Any recommended programs for doing this procedure? It needs to hit the correct place even if the document has been re sized or re flowed. Thanks for the help. |

Have you tried using the "info" feature from the main nav bar on the eink side? One quick-and-dirty solution would be to create bookmarks within the document on the PE, open the info menu on the tablet and use that to jump around within the text. Hopefully I've not misunderstood what you were asking after. |

I would assume that if you have a fully functional version of Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer, you could embed anchors and links within your PDFs, and then create tables of contents that you can use to link to specific spots within the document when it's open on the ink side.
Not Adobe, but I'm looking at a couple of others. I don't have much experience at linking etc, so I don't know the differences in the programs, but I do know I don't want Acrobat. I'm open to suggestions.

Have you tried using the "info" feature from the main nav bar on the eink side? One quick-and-dirty solution would be to create bookmarks within the document on the PE, open the info menu on the tablet and use that to jump around within the text. If I go to that much work, I'm thinking a more elegant solution would be better. IE: using the existing TOC and not opening a new window, etc but I have only played with bookmarks a little. |

I should have added a third question.
The military supplies the manual in a basic PDF format. If I'm going to do this much work, am I better off in PDF or EPub, given that future revisions will be necessary? What are your reasons for the recommendation you have? Thanks |

Some good, free PDF tools; plus they are all portable rather than installs. Load a thumb drive and have them on any PC.

ezPDF will even read the PDF (very well I might add) if the Android PICO Installer Language Pack is installed. *** Download using your device *** http://areacellphone.com/2010/01/dow...age-installer/ Download via PC: http://www.1mobile.com/pico-tts-lang...oid-62221.html Select Samsung S8000 (doesn't matter), Download, Transfer, Install. Repligo Reader is another full featured PDF program that will also work on your Nook (http://twitter.com/#!/RepliGo/status...77242321432576). It can be downloaded from the Amazon App Store for $4.99. http://www.cerience.com/products/reader/android Last edited by obsessed2; 05-16-2011 at 03:15 PM. |

obsessed2, cheyennedonna,
Thanks for the links, now that I'm home from work I'll give them a look. I didn't realize what a project this would be, oh well as I tell my students: "it's a learning experience." ![]() |

when I read an PDF on my IREX DR800 reader, I can zoom. when I zoom, it coverts the PDF into a normal written text. Absolutely awesome.
I also can zoom with my edge, but that is just making the text bigger. as if I would zoom a picture. can one of those apps do the same as my IREX? |

Do you mean PDF reflow? If that is the case the edge does that in the menu view. EZPDF reader zooms to 800% while in reflow mode, Repligo to 150%. Both are good.
