Screen protector is needed?

I'm waiting for my Pocket Edge in a few days and I have a doubt. Do you need screen protector? If so, where I can buy?.
Thanks

Welcome to the forums, anuskaeg

Some people insist on screen protectors, others don't bother (I fall in the latter category). Fingernails and the included stylus are relatively soft and normally shouldn't damage the screens. However, things like sand and metal will, and if your fingers are routinely less than clean (grease, chemicals, dirt, etc.) then a protector will make them easier to clean. A little bit of food grease (chicken wings, french fries, potato chips) won't instantly harm the screens, but you really should wash your hands after eating those before using the eDGe

Usually you put protectors on things like tablets and cellphones because their screen is always exposed, the latter getting scratched up if you carry it in a pocket, and both if you carry them in a bag. For these, if you hate minor scratches, you really do need protectors. However, the eDGe folds up for travel, protecting both screens, so you don't have to worry about those types of scratches.

Here are some past discussions on screen protectors:
- http://www.entourageedge.com/forums/...tom-selections

Applying them can sometimes be problematic, as you'll read.

Note that all of them are for the larger enTourage eDGe, not the Pocket eDGe. Some of the suppliers mentioned will probably carry the smaller protectors eventually.

I'd like to add to that reply; if you are heavy handed or children will use the edge a stylus can scratch. I use screen protectors for that reason, although they are a bit annoying - installing takes patience and they scratch much easier than the screen; needing replacement frequently.

Thanks for pointing out the scratchability with the stylus. I've changed "therefore shouldn't scratch" to "normally shouldn't scratch"

Thanks for the replies. Is there any place that sells screen protectors for Pocket Edge? Could
buy a generic? What is the exact size of each screen?

Thanks

Someone else may know of a source of screen protectors for the Pocket eDGe. It's only been selling for a month, so companies may not have them ready yet.

"Generic" might work - you could always cut them down to size. I'm not sure if there's a difference in screen protector material for resistive (enTourage LCD) vs capacitive (iPad) vs eInk screens (enTourage eInk).

The exact dimensions are as follows:
- eInk: 3 9/16" (91 mm) x 4 13/16" (122 mm)
- LCD: 3 3/8" (86 mm) x 6 1/16" (154 mm)

(Each of the imperial measurements are actually 1/32" larger than what I indicate.)

Hi! I know you're all talking about the pocket edge but I'd like to ask if you have anything new on screen protectors for both e-ink and LCD screens of the original eDGe. I use MaplePaint for writing on the LCD side so would like something scratch-resistant on it, too.

I've already read the old posts about zagg and nushield but would like to hear if there's something new on this. Thanks.

Hi. I just bought my pocket edge last week and I put an "adhoc" screen protector on it. I found the cheapest non-glare screen protector for an Ipad at a local store. It only cost me $9.99 and then I just cut out the dimensions and put it on both screens. I am able to use both the stylus for the LCD and the stylus for the E-ink side. You just have to make sure to put it, so there are no bubbles that may hinder the feedback. My wife has the same screen protector on her Ipad and it's very durable, no touch feedback issues and there is no glare that makes the E-ink unreadable. I have a 2 year old who uses the Ipad quite often (finger prints, using foreign objects to tap the ipad screen, sticky hands, etc) and it's held up fine. I think this is the cheapest option with a little bit of cutting.

Welcome to the forums, gamalen Thanks for posting your experience. It seems that cutting iPad screen protectors to size is a common and successful solution for eDGe owners...

Just wanted to note my experience having had my EE less than 24hours... I'm thinking why not just keep the protector it came with on it. It can easily be trimmed and it doesn't hinder usage.

I guess I would be in the aggressive stylus column. I didn't think I used it too hard, but I scratched my eDGe with a long swipe up.... and there went a huge 4" cut. I will never, ever, ever use a touch screen device without the screen protector. But also, the screen protector I bought SAID it would help in the sun. Ha. Wrong. Doesn't help at all in the sun. Maybe even makes it harder with one more obstacle to look through... shiny reflective and then low visual ability in the sun... There are other manufacturers and I am going to try some others and see if they make a difference. But they do protect and that is what I need it for... so I am happy for the most part. I really didn't think the protector could make THAT much of a difference outside. Maybe I can be proven wrong.

Did not it difficult to access if the touch screen coated screen protector?

Ahmadferi, I think there will be no problem using the touch screen through a screen protector. I do not have my eDGe yet, but I have other touchscreen devices, all covered by screen protectors, and that has never been a problem. Also, people have reported using screen protectors on their eDGes in other threads in this forum and I have yet to read of any interference between the protector and the touch capability.

Does anyone know better??

Best of luck,
Filark
