SlideIt keyboard

Next month Dasur will begin offering the Android version of SlideIt directly from their website for people who do not have market access. I've been using the demo version and really like it for entering large amounts of text quickly.

I haven't tried a slide style keyboard yet. Does it take long to get used to? What's it like with the predictive spelling? (which I wouldn't mind turning off, anyway)

No, it is pretty easy and offers word choices if it is not quite sure of your slide, you can also add words to your personal dictionary after you tap it in. A slide keyboard is invaluable on a touch phone and almost as useful on the edge. They offer a 15 day trial so you can try now pay later.

I'm intrigued by this program and would like to learn a bit more. So you both use it? And, you find it easier than the native keyboard? Any cons to it at all?

Thanks!

It's faster for sure and I use Swype on my phone already, so I'm used to the sliding action. You can switch to whichever keyboard is more suited to what you are doing by long pressing in the text entry area and choosing input method. I have a math keyboard too.

Tried to install the SlideIT_ANDROID_3.0.apk (on the EE) but get the message: "Cannot be installed on this phone (but then in Dutch)".

Is there a reason, solution for this? Does anyone have the same problem?

Did/do you have an older version that you might have been using as a trial? If so uninstall it and retry your installation. It installed fine for me after I removed 2.1.

I hadn't any problems during installation. It works fine.

Yep, I find it better to "slide" the text instead of tapping every single letter. It's faster for sure.
You can easily switch between two languages (primary and secondary languages), you can add or remove words to the language dictionary as well as you can define shortcuts for words or short phrases.
And you can easily switch between sliding and tapping mode.

@cheyennedonna: Have you managed to "write a web or email address"? There is a user manual as PDF, where some stuff is explained. But, I haven't really understood that part...

Hi! I was able to install the apk on my eDGe. However, I couldn't get the hang of the sliding motion. I read the user manual (applause!!) and I seem to be doing what it says but i can't even get a simple word as "hi" to type correctly. I tried swiping the same word several times, and every time, it returns a unique word. I finally uninstalled it when it appears that I'm wasting my time with it--I can't even make a short reply to an email. Is this just an LCD calibration issue?

You can try recalibration; I've never had an issue unless I ended on the wrong letters. Even then you are offered choices if the first word is not right, tap the correct word in the predictive line.

It worked fine for me too. Only one question. Where do we get the dictionaries? I would like to get the spanish dictionary. on the setup it implies that you need the market to get the dictionaries
